Either way, I'm glad I am in a state that has no natural disasters, except for drought, but what is FEMA gonna do about that?

There are some Valid points being made but here is my 2 cents worth. I"ve been thru Hurricanes in Florida...Before there was a FEMA. We all got together as Neighbors and we prepared for it. My house was the only one that had propane cookstove so we fed the neighbors too. We cleaned up our yards, fixed our own houses, the Government did Nothing and we Never expected them to, Period. My Uncle in Misssissippi and my aunt who is in a wheelchair worked with their neighbors and Survived Katrina by being Prepared before the storm hit. People act like it was JUST NEW ORLEANS that was hit and it was more like 3 states. Do you know what the logistics are of calling up National Guard troops , Getting Food, Water, Fuel, Medical supplies, vehicles, Communications gear, Blankets, etc ,etc, etc.? THEN you have to work your way down roads blocked by trees , downed power lines, Debris, while helping people all the way there, why I'm surprised they got there as fast as they did. Then they get heavy equipment moving in to help, That takes Big rigs and fuel too. You have to haul tankers, generaters, Ice, everything necessary, It is A BIG Deal ! The National Guard brought food ,water, and Ice to my family on the way to New Orleans, and they were very thankful for it, Not Complaining about anything, because they aren't leeches on society, They are Americans who needed a little Help. By the way, FEMA has to be asked for by the affected States Governors by law before they can do anything to help, that's just the way it is. I say Thank You George Bush, Fema, and all the troops and Volunteers That made it all happen as fast as it did !

We also have to take in effect that the size of the Hurricane a CAT4/3 when it hit but it caused damage in 2 states. New Orleans suffered because it was farthest away when help came. On top of that the Reserves and Natiobal Guard were deployed or elsewhere. On top of that the knuckleheads who stayed were the lowest on the IQ scale as also the economic scale. New Orleans is a city of some 30-40% chronic unemployment. It is the energy hub for this country with high pay and benefits for its workers but you can't work with flammable products if all u want to do is light up that crackpipe. Screw Em ! From what I have read 10s of thousands were staying in hotels at $500.00 a night. 6+ months now with Hurricane season coming up quick and these people still want us to pay their bills. I had it with them and the politicians who created this quagmire. Let them rot in !!!!.

Good Point MooseMan684. I remember as a kid when things happened in my neck of the woods, We had a generator and the locals would come over and make it like a party for a few days whenever we lost power because of a hurricane, flood, snow/ice storm, what have you. Instead of griping about how slow things went for them, I would suggest them folks be happy you get anything for nothing.

when you got a thousands of people in a city who don't own cars and didn't have noway out what do you do??? how do you leave days ahead of a storm with no car and no money? if someone would have tried to steal them busses days before the storm they would have been arrested. but to blame the people for being there when the goverment didn't come to their rescue man thats low.

Shaun<If you want to cast blame on the Government - Nagin and the Governor were the one's who in countless interviews at the beginning said they did not need help and the fed's cannot step in when they are not asked for assistance. Now the last time I checked it is not the governments responsibility to protect you it is your own and this means being smart enough to get out. Some of you who are quick to cast blame automatically think that its the gov's job and if they fail its thier fault. What happened to relying on your own brains to take warnings and leave before you are in a bad position>

if the goverment ain't supose to protect you then what is everyone so crazy about bush for. they say if we ain't got him in office we wouldn't have anyone to protect us.man just think if someone else would have been in office??? maybe they might have got here in one day. that's how long it took the canadian mounted poilce to get here!!! they were here the next day .sorry to rant but who is supose to protect us and come to our aid when we need it????who know's maybe the next disaster will be in your backyard ?? or someone elses and then they will see. hey live on a hill get burried by a land slide don't call for help you just shouldn't have been livin on the side of a hill in the first place right!!!or the next time your up flyin around and your plane goes putterin out over the water hey thats your fault don't exspect the coast guard to come and get you . remember you shouldn't have been up there in the first place . so the next time anyone is in need of help don't call anyone why??because you shouldn't have gottin yourself in that spot to begin with that's the american way or should i say the fema way.

When the poop hits the fan there just isn't enough Governmant to fix everything for everyone. It comes down to it its you and your family and your neighbors. You protect them and you stop looters dead ! Shoot looters and rioters if they become a threat to your area. Everyone is entitled to food and shelter, but crime and wanton rioting is not going to happen. In a emergency all gun stores should be locked down by police . If you have to remove all weapons prior to emergency, look what happened in New Orleans.
