Lightbulb A conversation with the Florida house speaker.

Allan Bense,R.,answered questions, among them was this.
Q.Increasingly we hear people say,"Maybe we need 12 years in Tallahassee,"because by the time someone learns the ropes, they're out,and the term limits have given more power to lobbyists and staff people.
A. We passed,in the Florida house and senate, moving term limits to 12 years.
I wasn't wild about it,but sometimes there are issues out there that the vast majority of my membership wants, and that was one of them.

I'm not sure term limits work that well. Here in California it's given us a steady stream of people who don't know what they're doing. By the time they learn, they're gone.

So I think he may be right about it giving too much power to lobbyists and faceless staff members, because the legislators need to lean on someone who knows how stuff works.

Well, it shouldn't be so frick'n hard - they make it that way so they can stay in play. Getting elected and doing the people's business should be a piece of cake, and they shouldn't make $100K plus doing it either. We need less gummit-up, not more. I know state legislator's don't make the jack our congress-critters do, but it should still be alot easier than they make it appear. An elected politician who does nothing is a better friend to us than a selfserving jackarss, deadarss determined to make a name for him/herself.

I dunno. It takes a while to get the hang of any job, no matter how simple it is. And all these raw yahoos are relying on people with axes to grind to get them up to speed.

If the people elect people who don't have a clue to how government works then so be it. As it is right now they reelect a bunch of morons as it is half the time so what would be the difference; a well informed moron?

I still say that no company in the world would get anywhere changing out it's entire staff every few years; why should we think it'll work in government?

I'm with Stopper....screw them self serveing pieces of shizzit! They all deserve the friggin' sword! But, that's just me....I hate them all because they are what they are. New folks should know to serve those who elected them...not the greedy business man. But, as touched on by Stopper, integrity is something long missing from the government and those who "serve" themselves while "serving" an extra large "serving " to us!
