Didn't I read somewhere that Panama government had sold the Panama Canal to a company owned by China? Scary if true!!

Did I hear they snuck two more ports into the deal...the ones that ship our heavy military weapons like tanks and helos, etc...?

Don't forget Apocolypse March.

Tin foil hats...? Is that for the fallout? Man, I hope it lands in my back yard.

The UAE is buying the company from the Brits. The relevant question is why any foreign entity is responsible for port security. It doesn't matter that it's the UAE. It's not like a bunch of Islamic Clerics will be patrolling the Port of Philadelphia.
The real question is why ANY foriegn entity has been in control of these ports.

it is a terrible idea! but the way i understand it is that port security will still be the responsibility of the u.s. coast guard and local law enforcement, and the arab company will only be contracted for the management of the ports operation. that being said...personally i wouldnt let the little bastages manage a burger king!

At least our 7-11 convenience stores are safe. Last time I checked, the Armenians still had them firmly in hand.

these are the same folks (saudi) who funded, if you can believe anything that comes from the white house and bush, or his lackies, 9/11 and the terrorists. We give them enough of our money and we should just say "NO!!!!!"
besides, i'm tired of little pieces of America being sold to people who aren't Americans and people who hate America. Besides, is there no one in America who is capable to do this job? Why is it being given to outsiders in the first place? This is America's security....not for outsiders. Those responsible should all be shot and/or tied up and gasoline soaked and burning tireds should be placed around thier necks! What is wrong with bush and his buds? Could it be they are all traitors? I'm beginning to think so....

Question

Don't know for sure, but I heard from a source that seems to do his homework that that Brit company has been bought by the EAU.
If thet is the case it sounds like SOMEONE is doing their business rather well.

Guess what Bush ! You push this down our throats and you deserve to be impeached ! Simply it comes down to paying off favors ! They made him President and now he has alot of !!! to kiss. You could build an American Company overnight to do this job. X-Military folks who know how to get things done and could safe guard these ports.

I heard that Bush was not even aware.

The London-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co. was bought by Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates, or UAE.

Sure port security will still be managed by the US based unions. This does, however, make us much more vulnerable, especially with the addition of the two ports shipping military gear.

It opens the possiblility of infiltration of the vital facilities by terrorists and give them knowledge of what ship has what goods, and which to target.

The same company also owns many foreign ports that ship to the US. To me the mistake was made when this was sold to a foriegn nation. If I recall correctly this occurred under Reagan and overrode his VETO(?) pen, he said 20+ years ago we would regret it.

Well, atually WE are still in charge of security. They just own the ports and do the loading/off-loading and whatever other business a port does.

I too am against it, just "off shoring" more jobs. Just more of the same ol same ol from this administration.

The more I read the more it seems to be alot of political positioning and much ado about nothing.
Both the British company and the Dubai company are holding companies that buy and sell other companies. They don't actually have anything to do with actual operations. Like Phillip Morris buying Nabisco.
As Stopper pointed out, WE have always been and would still be responsible for our own port security.
Besides all that, Dubai and the UAE have been staunch and unwavering allies of ours.

Yes they have, but if american jobs are lost because of who owns the port, it could turn ugly. I say keep it American, American jobs, American owned. Screw the new world order, diversity and all that American value eroding BS.

I don't think the jobs will change one way or another. But I agree that globalization of fundamental businesses like ports may be a bad idea.
