Need advice on two rifles..Henry .22 lever action & Marlin .22 - Page 2

Hey Ox, I Agree that Both rifles are great choices and both are accurate, So Buy both of them ,Use the Marlin for a "Beater " Rifle and Keep the Henry Mint ! You won't regret it ! (Investment !)
I like Henry's Slogan...Load on Sunday,Shoot all week !

Another advantage to Henry is that all their rifles (except the Goldenboy) have the scope grooves atop the action. Just plop a scope on and you're "good to go"! The Marlin is more difficult to scope - a special rail is needed, and the receiver may need to be D&T'd.
The little Henry would fit a youngster better - it's petite compared to the Marlin. If you do want more heft, the Goldenboy is a beefier rifle, and has more Bling-appeal (NRAJoe would like it!). It's price puts it more in direct comparison to the Marlin too.

Henry golden boy, no questions asked. Besides being a good looking rifle, it's a tack driver and has the smoothest lever actions I've ever used.

hey ox, i own a henry golden boy lever action and boy is that a beaut. The sites are great, its comfortable, and light as a feather. The gold on the butt mixed with the walnut stock and more gold make for a beautiful rifle, accurate too! The action on it is so smooth its like puttin a sharp knife through warm butter. The only problem was the tube came unlubed so it was like fingernails on chalk the first time pullin her out, a few drops of lube was a quick fix. I also own a marlin semi that is older but is no slouch. Much quieter than the henry, if that is a factor for u but its not like the henry is any louder than the crack of a whip. I have a scope on the marlin, it is my squirrel gun. The henry is just for plinkin, which i do more of anyways. I have had only a handful of hang ups in the ejection over the many years i have owned the rifle and i love rapid firing and that is bound to happen a couple times, so no biggie. Im thinkin about gettin a wall mount for the henry just cause its so darn good lookin, i wanna display it for everyone to c. I may not have been much help here but just lettin ya know these r both great guns!!! let us know when u get it and how it performs. good luck!

OH! almost forgot about the octagon barrel on the golden boy! another aesthetic pleasure of the rifle, not sure if it has anything to do with the accuracy but it sure looks cool!

billhilly7 and rugermarksman...thanks for those additional comments. That's exactly the kind of thing I wanted to hear discussed. Those of you who've held these two rifles in question, and shot rounds through them, have made some excellent comments. I will definitely keep them in mind. Thanks again!

I found this Thread on the Internet looking for information about Marlin boltaction and
Henry leveraction 22's.
I want the Marlin and my Step Father wants a Henry.
I sent off a while back for a Henry catalog and after what seemed forever I contacted them again to request a catalog.
The Owner or Big Boss Anthony Imperato contacted me personaly I wasn't ugly or anything like that I just rerequested a catalog for my Step Father.
Well this feller contacted me by e-mail appologizing and what not.
I sure was impressed that he did that and it was nice to know he cared and he made me feel important !!!

This thread is about a year old and due to it being close to Christmas many folks may be looking for a 22 to get...A.H

I've got the Henry Goldenboy in .22lr...she's a sweet little rifle...I even went to the Henry website and got the brass barrel band to replace the black painted one that comes on them...now it looks as it should.

Henry service is outstanding....

Joe, look in to the large loop.

I put one on my rifle and it's very nice for the bigger hands.

Glad you enjoy yours. I think the Henry's are STILL a well kept secret.

BTW...their customer service out of Brooklyn (of all places, New York is second to none.

Oh jeez. I just bought a basic one and now I find this place and see NRAJOE's Golden Boy. She's a beauty. I'm feeling a bit of buyer's remorse and I haven't even shot it yet. lol. Really, I'm super happy I finally got one even if it is just blue. I had been shooting my 10/22 at quarry icicles for years with 2 buddies that had Henrys. I really wanted a lever gun but couldn't justify it. So...I just gave the 10/22 to my God Son, which meant I needed a .22 and so I got myself the Henry. How's that for logic ? 1st on my list is a Spee-D-Loader or three. (load on Sunday, shoot all week) 2nd is a different front sight. It seems too wide. I poked around online but there doesn't seem to be anything out there. Help ? I don't want a scope on this gun. 3rd, what about a sling ? Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie. Great site !
