Traveling with firearms

I am having to go to PA for some business. I am going to be driving back, but to get there I will want to take the train, or bus. I know Amtrack isn't firearm friendly...but at all the local train stations I have been to, I do not see a metal detector. I want to be legit, especially carrying my new firearm and CCW. I have been to packing.com and the CCW is fine from what I have read.

the problem I have is carrying a firearm with me. I do not want to go without one, especially to a place I am not 100% about.

Any suggestions guys?

I have been on many trains and have never been stopped searched or even looked twice at.

I have heard tsa is going to be managing trains and that means no CCW a call to the company would help

I believe you will need a non-resident CCW permit to carry a loaded firearm concealed in public. Open carry isn't specified by the law and is likely to be dealt with by local authorities, possibly prosecuted as something else. On private property you can have whatever you want. In PA rifles, shotguns, and handguns without a CCW permit must be transported unloaded in a motor vehicle with ammunition in a separate container. This can mean a separate pouch of a case.

Carrying without a permit if you would otherwise be unprohibited is a misdemeanor offense. Permits are issued on a Shall Issue basis.

Not the best solution...but here's one possibility. Purchase a gun carrying case (hard surfaced and lined with plenty of padding) for either a handgun or rifle. Have it locked and tagged. I've seen this practice used on TV advertisements. Getting through the legal hassles is a whole different problem.

I once looked into taking a train vs plane, and found no advantage at all to the train. I'm thinking they're better suited these days to freight or to folks who would rather see the countryside on ground level then from a few miles high.

You are only going to PA and are flying? By the time you arrive for the flight, check in, wait for security, board, fly, deplane, get luggage, and depart the terminal, you can be most of the way there by car and have transportation when you are there.
