I'm looking for ammo for my mosin that i just bought. Its a westernhouse with a 31 inch barrel, i got it for a diecent price. but i want some ammo for it. anyone have any ideas. i cant wait to shoot it..:target:
one thing I like to tell folks is go pick up a copy shotgun news thats sgn it looks like a cheap small paper folder something like you would see on the stands at a circke k. Its not easy to find in some places, I subscribe. you will find all the info on ammo or what ever you need
Sportsmans guide has some Beautiful Polish 7.62x54R 147 grain copper washed FMJ Steel core ammo for 64.97 for 880 rounds/2 sealed tins in a wooden crate...A great deal for you lower 48 people ! (They won't ship to Alaska or I would order 2 or 3 cases !

What I have in Polish Is Very Good Ammo ! Good, Clean ,Accurate, No Misfires, but of course it probably isn't the same Batch so what can I say ?
I just opened a Case of Albanian to test and it is Beautiful,Brass cased ammo.
I will test fire in the near future and let you know about it.
Buy a case and give us a Report !

Never heard anything bad about it, but keep in mind that it's steel-core. Most ranges won't allow it, or so I've heard. And it'll throw some amazing sparks if you hit rocks or metal with it.
I have some Czech silvertip steel-core that I put away until the coming of wet weather, after seeing the fireworks show I created one evening using a big boulder as a backstop.

Or at least, what's left of one. It's beat-up looking stuff with dingy brass and wrinkled shoulders, and every now and then there's a pinhole (or bigger) in the neck and shoulder area, so I sort thru 'em as I'm loading my stripper clips and dump any with holes.
But it goes bang first time, every time. And the accuracy seems fine. It doesn't kick quite as much as most of the stuff I've shot, though--just as noisy, but the push is a little softer.
Funny thing about those wrinkled shoulders; they iron right out when I pull the trigger.
What year Albanian Ammo did you get ??? Mine is perfect stuff, Clean, Bright and shiny with annealed cases made in 1987 ! No wrinkles on mine so yours must be old !
LOL

I have the Czech Silvertip, and many of my Mosins don't seem to care for it. But my newest, the '30 Izzy Hex Receiver M91/30 I just got - it loves the stuff! My best group was four rounds into 9/16" C-t-C at 50 yards. I jerked on the fifth.
We were limited to fifty yards, wind and the fact the front sight was too far left - it threw the shots to the right. But the tight groups are great - I can adjust the front sight.
I've been wanting to try that heavier Hungarian stuff. My M39 Finn has shown better performance with heavier loads.
All of the military ammo is dirty and as far as I know, all of it is corrosive. I've got a can of 88' Russian that shoots just fine but the cleaning session lasts longer than the range time. I started shooting commercial ammo and reloading just for the easier cleaning.
I bought some training ammo at the gunshow this weekend. It is some fun stuff, it is a light grain bullet, its like 54 grains, and it is traveling and like 2800 feet per second. It is funner then !!!!, there is no recoil, the down fall was that it cost 2 dollars a box of 12, i bought like 20 boxes. I would like to buy more, it is a round nose bullet and has a white tip, steel case. if anyone should come across any let me know. It was cheap and fun to shoot. the bowling pins that i was shooting fell very nice.
Get a case of hungarian siver tip from AIM.Its the best i have found since the chinese siver tip i bought years ago. AIM is a great place and have always done me well. If you want to try, just order a can.
Yes it is corrosive, juat run a couple of patchs of windex after shooting then clean like normal when you get home.
They are selling some Igman ,its noncorrosive and boxer primed for less than $7.00 a box.I just ordered some but havent tried it yet.

DON'T buy that cheap polish stuff. When I shoot it, 1 out of 5 shells comes out with a cracked neck... DANGEROUS! Also, it's corrosive and I cant hit the broadside of a barn with it. You get what you pay for.
