Exclamation Put aside your religious beliefs for a few and read the story

The story below is from a newsletter that my wife gets. Put aside any religious beliefs that you have for a moment and just look at the reaction from the government. A man wants to STOP getting government assistance and he is denied. He wants to return money to the treasury and they will not take it, yet they will harass people for a few tax dollars under threat of force and continue to take tax dollars to waste on cases like this.

-----------------

Man Who Was Healed by the Lord Wishes to Return 22 Thousand Dollars in Unused Disability Checks to Government
Pastor Wiley Drake / Aimee Herd reporting (Mar 7, 2006)

"If you will grant me a withdrawal application, I will return all the checks I have received since my healing by Jesus."

Twenty-two years ago, Robert Baulmer began receiving financial help for his disability from the U.S. government. Then in December of 2003, he was reportedly healed of his disability "through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ." That's when, according to the report in the Christian Newswire, Baulmer sought to return the assistance checks to the Social Security Administration, but they did not want them back.

Now, 2 ½ years later, Robert Baulmer is still trying to give back the money he no longer needs, since being healed by the Lord, and withdraw himself from the assistance program. The latest reply from the U.S. Social Security Administration stated: "Since you are willing, and able, to repay only a part of your benefits, your request for withdrawal must be denied."

During the time Baulmer was in need of the benefits he received $188,670.30, but since his healing in 2003, he has not cashed any of the checks that were sent - a total of $22,000.00.

Baulmer told the government, "If you will grant me a withdrawal application, I will return all the checks I have received since my healing by Jesus, and hope this $22,000.00 will help in what President Bush is calling a great need in the Social Security System." He stresses his only motive is to return the money and "give glory to God."

He should Cash the checks and donate the money to the church if the Govt doesn't want it back. Jesus Might need it in this economy! :right:

Sounds like a good idea, Mooseman. Giving the money to places that help the needy more efficiently than the government. Give glory to God by giving the money to those who serve Him. The guy had a good idea, but seems that now he should look at other routes. Apparently the treasury doesn't have the same sentiment.

If he seriously wants to "return" the money, he will have done so by simply not cashing the checks he has received.

Is he still getting checks?

But, really stupid. the fed probably thinks the old guy is nuts....sadly, i don't know anyone who would give away thousands...especially to the government!

Only if you think that taking money that is not supposed to be yours is OK and you enjoy being a leach on the rest of the taxpayers. The man has a conscience and at least tried to do the right thing.

I have no quarrel at all with him not wanting the money. But like I said, if he wants to 'return' it, all he has to do is continue not cashing the checks.

I have no idea what his disability was, but that would also ensure that if it returned he wouldn't have to go through the ordeal of getting approved again.
