Require all employers to verify the identity and immigration status of their employees through an electronic system.
Assess civil penalties of between $500 and $20,000 against employers for each illegal immigrant they hire and criminal penalties of up to $20,000 per illegal immigrant hired and up to six months in jail for engaging in a pattern of employing illegal workers.

They're completely ignoring the ones we already have, which are pretty heavy to begin with. How about enforcing them, instead of passing new laws which will also be ignored?
This is "feel-good" legislation, so Frist can posture and claim he's doing something about the problem as he gears up to run for president..

Even in Canada they are not enforcing the exsiting laws, Worse yet they pass laws with no teeth. What good is a law with no means to enforce it.
All it is, is a point in a civel sute witch only goes to give cause to pay lawyers.:smash:
My thoughts exactly Troy. This would be pointless legislation. Start taking it to the employers and problem solved. Maybe. I guess they would all stick around anyways for the free healtcare, schools and welfare benefits.

:joker: Only I think the fines should be at least triple and there should be jail on the first offense, like if you use a gun to commit crime. Put teeth into the law, enforce it without mercy and the problem will cure itself.:guitar:

It doesn't matter what the penalities are, if they aren't busting anyone. And they totally aren't.
I had this discussion with someone a few days ago on here. Last year, the only penalties handed out were for a settlement of an old case with WalMart and its cleaning-crew subs. The year before, they nailed absolutely no one.
