My advice would be a gun show. Hmm, lets see. Centerfire Systems has a few, Atlantic firearms has alot to pick from also. I don't really know if there overpriced or not though, BRG3 could probably help you there. I guess you could always check out gunbroker and gunsamerica. I swear if my Dad doesn't stop dragging his feet with this whole AK deal. I've asked him for 3 weeks to get ahold of that gun, yet I still don't have it What are you wanting? I know the cheaper ones that Centerfire has were(I think) single stack rifles that were converted to take high cap. mags. I don't know how well this works though.

I want a SAR-1 with a side folder. I saw them on Gunsamerica for 465 plus shipping and I think that is a little too pricey for me. I may end up with a WASR 10 and that may be it. I really want a quality one though and I know SAR is a good one. What do you think? My budget is anywhere from 300 to 450.

Also, what about the mak-90? IS that worth buying for like 450 or around that price?

Yep, the WASR 10's were converted over from the single stack to Hi Cap after the AWB let up from what I have heard. Some have threaded ends on the barrels, and the older ones ( Clinton era ) don't, and also have the bayonet lug removed. I have a WASR 10 and I honestly love that gun to death. Mine is Post AWB, so I have all the goodies still attached to it. Even though the reciever was remilled to accept High cap mags, the magazine has a nice snug fit and doesn't really shake around much more than it should. I have put over 500 rounds through this thing and have never had one hiccup, burp, misfire, double feed, or slam fire... EVER. ( I don't even have the infamous "Trigger slap" problem )
It also holds pretty tight groups all the way out to 100 yds. ( furthest I have tested it )
I have seen some crappy WASR's, so be sure to inspect it well before buying. When I was in the process of finding mine, I found some that the magazines flopped around like fish, and others where the trigger pull was notchy... ended up inspecting about 8 of the things before I found one that I liked. If you can find a good one, they are awesome guns and well worth the 300-350 you will probably pay for them.

I know like you said that the magazines can flop and so on. I am new with AK's, I am an SKS man myself, what should I inspect before I buy a WASR 10?? Should I get the muzzle slant break? I see some for 339 and 379, which are the better? Give me all your WASR knowledge

The only difference I have noticed between the cheaper and more expensive WASR's is the stock configurations they come with. The side folders and underfolders are gonna be more expensive, and the ones with the wood furniture are gonna be the cheapest. I didn't care too much for the wood they came with, so I replaced it with the Fiberforce stock kit ( black synthetic with a Dragunov style cheekrest )
As far as problems that I have heard, the most common one is about triggerslap... apparently when they get imported and the new US trigger is installed ( for legal reasons... gotta love the parts count law on certain imported firearms ) it has a lil bit too much metal on one side of it that causes the bolt to "slam" against it when it rechambers a round.... which kinda bangs against yer finger... makes people upset... etc etc.. ( if you have this problem you can fix it easily with a dremel tool )
I got lucky and managed to find one ( luck of the draw ) that doesn't have this problem, and I have heard of others that have managed to do the same. The finish they come with ( on the reciever ) is very cheap, and scratches fairly easily. It's more like a HD Flat black spraypaint. Doesn't bother me, but it does some people.
Most WASR's these days come with the slanted muzzle break that actually works quite well. If you see one with something different, more than likely it was installed by the PO. But anyway, when you go out looking for one, be sure to insert a magazine and wiggle it around a bit. All AK's have a lil bit of play, but if it's floppin around like a fish you should grab another AK. Check triggerpull to find one with a clean break... inspect the rifling... theres not really too much you have to look out for on these guns. I have a friend of mine who has had his 3 years, put about 3-500 rounds through it, and never cleaned it once. ( but I wouldn't recommend doing this )
Oh, one last thing. When you do get your AK be SURE to take the bolt down and clean the cosmo off of the firing pin! It is a free-floating firing pin and if it gets too much crud built up on it, it has been known to stick out in the "fire" position and slam fire until the magazine is empty. ( Sks's have been known to do this too )
If theres anything else important that I can think of I'll post it up for ya, but I think I've covered just about everything I can think about. I hope this helps!

Eh, it looks like it doesn't have a threaded bbl... he might have cut it out of the picture on purpose. Check with Century, as ya might be able to get one without the sporterized stock AND get one with a muzzle break already installed.

::edit:: Yeah, like what Moose said! Mine is a CAI Import.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...da312/MyAK.jpg Heres a picture of what my AK looks like. I really like the Fiberforce stock alot, makes it alot easier for me to shoot. I am a big guy, and I swear the stocks on those things were designed with midgets in mind! LoL

Dave, thanks so much for the info.

Rich, thanks for the site.

See, that is the same gun that the gun store down the street has, but they want 379 for it. IS that particular AK a good one becasuse that is the basic WASR with the slant that I think I want. Should I spend 379 for it because I don't have to wait and I can buy it at the gun store?

So you didn't get The FFL Yet ? Since Shipping and Handling etc. is Extra I don't think they are out of line on the price IF It has ALL the Named Accessories, Like 3 Mags, Bayonet, Etc !:right:

I am waiting on the opproval and that is it. Soon I \'ll have it and the guilding is almost paid for.

Anyways, I think I may get that one with the slant break. It may be from AIM or the store down the street as long as I get me a good deal I am set.

I built my last AK from a Romanian Kit and it is pretty awesome ! Does the Slant Brake unscrew on the one you are looking at ?( Left hand Threads)
Is the Stock Laminated ? They are Strong stocks !
