I know that my MAK-90 in .223 is going to be a pain. Mags are hard to find, it has the bulky stock, and everything is different about it. Is it worth trading down to a WASR-10 for convience? What is a better round .223 or 7.62X.39??

Well, if you don't mind, how much are you going to pay for this .223 AK? Which is a better round? Well, that depends on what you want. Personally I wouldn't trust the Russian round past 150-200 yards, atleast not out of an AK, but the .223 was(from what I've read) designed more to "wound" someone instead of kill them. It has the range, but not the power, atleast IMO. Of course, I could be 100% wrong, which I probably am.
THe WASR-10 is 339 new and the MAK-90 is 344 used. THe MAK-90 is the .223 that you already know so well because of the good little chat we had. What you say??

Yeah, BRG3 will be the one to answer that. I mean, everyone says the WASR10 is a good rifle, and I believe them. However, my brother-in-law bought one from Centerfire Systems(I think) and the gun is junk. The front site was installed wrong, so it's off to one side, the muzzle break/slant, whatever, was on wrong. He installed a red-dot on it(used a receiver cover with a rail on top, bad choice) that never held zero. And on top of that he couldn't even HIT a yard sale sign at 50 yards with the open sights.
IF I end up getting the WASR I know that I am going to look back and say man I should have bought that Yugo when I had the chance. That's it after work I am getting that Yugo and you will be looking at the pictures tonight. Maybe I can get my girlfriend to pose naked with it. Can I post naked pictures of her on the site or will that violate the rules?

The milled ones are indeed awesome. Caliber is a matter of preference. If you wanted to go 223, consider a Saiga 223 or WASR-3, they are a bit easier to find/mod mags for than the Norinco.
I concur with the majority on that a WASR is a good entry level AK, but a quality build such as the Yugo or a Vector is a good step up, and that the milleds kick the arses of similarly priced AR-15s, but I hold that a Saiga is the best rifle FOR THE MONEY. You will likely pay somewhere between the price of a WASR and a Yugo for all the parts involverd, but converting a Saiga to pistol grip and standard mags results in a rifle at least as good and in some ways better than the Vector and Yugo builds. The milled Bulgarians are certainly better yet, but the Saiga is a far larger drop in price than in quality.

Hey BRG3, do you know of a website that has all the AK markings on it? If my Dads friend cant run down to look at that AK this weekend, I might just go with him instead. I'd like to take something down with me to help me identify what the gun is.
