Match Primer vs. Reg. Primers

Guys, what's the difference between Primers labeled Match and Regular primers? (besides the box)

negative my taurus wont hit match primers, only likes the cheap stuff. i believe the match primer has faster ignition but a harder surface.

That's what they will tell you to justify the higher cost.

Of all the reloading I've done (and I use primarily Winchester and Remington primers) I can't remember the last fail to detonate and my groups are as close as I like 'em or need 'em.

Bench, competition, and match shooters are anal retentive about doing everything 'match'.

Perhaps I might be too if I were into that type of reloading and shooting but I'm not.

Appreciate the replys. Guess I'll have to purchase a chronograph now to check n see.
Hmm?
Used match small rilfe primers on 223 for the Texas State Rifle Association Highpower Championship in April. First 12 shots at 600 yards was punching the target at 3:00 to 9:00 with two back to back bullseyes. Then my eyes started to get fuzzy and target looked like a blurry football. Finnished with a 164-4 and no misses like the days before. That was the 3rd-5th time shooting a 600. What a Hoot!

if match are more consistent, they must be really good. I never have primer problems with any of the guns i shoot. Reg. has always worked for me :right:

Match primers (benchrest small rifle) are supposed to be more consistent primers and give you better accuracy.

They don't necessecarily do this.

I have a pet load in the .17 Rem that used to use CCI BR4 primers. A few years ago all of a sudden my bullets started going all over the place. I started doing all sorts of stuff to the cases, and started thinking I was going to need a new barrel. I tried a switch to regular Winchester small rifle and am now pretty happy with the way the 17 shoots...
