From my viewpoint you guys had late model stock cars...not as old as some of my unused ties.

Now here's my first car. It was a flathead V-8, 1933 Ford, black, two doors that swung forward, stick shift with bucket seats, front windshield cranked forward at the bottom, wipers operated with a hand crank, back window came stock with a window shade, 19" wire spoke wheels, mechanical brakes (no posh hydraulic modern brakes), front hood opened from both sides, incondescent bulbs in headlamps, one tail lamp only, continentinal spare tire, and plenty of power when I got my first temporary two year drivers license in KS by slapping down $1.00 to the owner of a local cafe who also sold permits, and a single ooga-ogga horn.

My two year older brother and I inherited it from my grandfather in 1952 but he already had a 1937 Pontiac coup...so he sold his half interest to me for $25.

My all-time favorite was my little '68 AMC AMX - same wheel base as the Pinto and Gremlin - way more power! Mine was the 290 V8, their smallest V8 at the time - the real good ones had the hi-perf 390.
Still, my little monster would out-drag most cars with twice the horses. The AMX was a 2-seat drag car homulogated for the street. Basically a Javelin with a 12 inch shorter frame and special suspension mods. Rear suspension was rock hard - oh, those railroad tracks and washboard roads were a literal pain in the backside! Horrid seats. But I could lock the brakes, turn the wheel, hit the gas and be spun 180 and going the other way in an instant! It broke traction real easy - a very unstable little barstage. Great fun once you learned her ways.
I drove the roads hunting those over-confident 455 TransAms. Anything under 104MPH, I ate their lunch. After that - well, I topped out at 104MPH! On the open highway, they ate me.
I had to be my own mechanic - once the dealers gave up AMC, nobody knew how to work on them! A Chevy-style motor, Chrysler transmission, and Ford electrics - body built like a farmtruck.

I always had the hardest time convincing folks that AMC really did build a two-seat racer. :right:

I've had so many really nice Mopars. It's a shame I was so stupid and didn't save just one of them for my retirement and entertainment. Lord, was I a dumb arse.

Lets see. Right now I have a '67 GTO convertible, 400 .30", worked heads. I need to put a bigger cam in it, rebuild the rear-end and TH-400, and a bigger exhaust. Oh I love the looks I get when I drive it. I used to have a '78 Monte Carlo with a 305. Thing wouldn't do over 90mph unless I was going down hill LOL. My wife HATES that car, why I will not say  . I didn't own it, but one of the biggest mistakes I made was not buying a '66 Impala SS. Oh man was that car nice. It was blue on blue, 275hp 327 with a 2-speed powerglide. The car was perfect, not a dint or a scratch on it, all original too. The price was $6600, not a day goes by I regret not buying that car. My Dad had lots of old cars, but the two I remember was a '51 Jag, had a 289 in it hooked to a TH-350. He said not a Mustang or Camaro around could touch it. And a '53 4-door Chevy station wagon that would have just been cool to fix up.

Ford made a passenger car slant six????????? Wouldnt it have been the `log` six, 140, 170 cu in? ( we called them log motors cause of the integral intake manifold, it was like a `log` stuck to the outside of the head. It made sticking triple carbs on there difficult )

Speaking of "logs", I have (I think) an imitation three carb intake adapter for an early Chevy 6 cylinder made by Offenhauser. It is brand new-never installed and appears to bolt over the top of a stock manifold and mounts two "dummy" carbs at each end but only has the original center-mounted carb functional. Any of you old geezers know anything about this? I also have a two duece Offy intake w\carbs for an early flathead Ford V-8.

I think the faster car I've been in was a friends '66 Chevelle SS. It had a built 454 pushing 450-475hp, 4.10 posi rear, and a 4-speed. Good lord was that car fast. His buddy(who could really drive a stick) took me for a ride in it. We were cruising along about 25mph in a 35mph zone heading out of town(keep in mind this is still a street with houses on it as far as you could see). So he's kindof giving it a little gas playing around, when all of a sudden he drops in into first or second and just flat out takes off. He kept it to the floor all the way through 4th, which took about 6 seconds to do. I now know what tunnel vision feels like, or warp speed to I guess LOL. He said we got up to about 120... still in a 35 zone. I got my Dad to drive it once, when we got back he said there was no need for 1st or 2nd gear LOL.
