.22 Ammo Types

Hi there!

I was wondering if anyone knew good brand names for ammo. I hear some companies make so called "dirty bullets". Do you think Federal Ammo, PMC, Wolf, Remington are good? I don't know a lot of companies. Could anyone tell me if there are others that are good, but fairly cheap.

I'm just doing simple target shooting at my range I go to.

I like this one because of the price. Has anyone used it before?

Thanks

Hey there,

Thanks for the reply . Where do you get your ammo from?

Edit:

Ok, I've called my gunsmith and found out that anything is ok except hyper velocity and low velocity. He said anything like standard stuff would work like cci green tag and some federal stuff. Thanks for the help .

I actually like to use either remington or federal. If I had to pick, federal. CCI is way better than both but is a little expencive for plinking. I would use CCI for hunting/comp.

I'll buy like 10-25 of these to start with.

The blazers are great for plinking. You will like them.

The American Eagle's are pretty good too, although watch out for the 38 grain hollow points, they only come in 40 round boxes. I like them a lot for cheap hunting ammo.

PMC is no longer in the .22LR biz, so I've been told. Never liked there stuff that much anyways.

Just try a few different brands/varieties and you will figure it out.

Don't forget to try the cheapie bulk packs from sporting good stores. You might find they work well for you and your gun and you'll be set with cheap ammo.

That sounds good. I just didn't want to buy dirty bullets (usually from over seas).

Try different brands and the gun will tell which IT likes best!

Generally I like Winchester Dynapoint as the best all-round bulk pack ammo. I've shot some very tight 50 and 100 yard groups with it.
CCI Blaser can be good in some guns, but others don't like it. The old Federal Lightning was good - I haven't tried the Fed. Champion Target that replaced it yet.
CCI Standard is good in target-oriented guns, but often a good batch of cheaper ammo can shoot as good. Greentag is merely a batch of Standard that exceeds the normal spec.

Remington I don't generally care for - tends to be very inconsistent in my guns. However, a couple guns of mine do like it.

Can't stand remington rimfire ammo, havn't used it for years. Of the ones mentioned I'd stick with federal.

Yeah, Remington tends to be kinda crappy.

I would maybe take a look at midwayusa.com for your online ammo needs. I use them almost exclusively for .22 ammo and other gun stuff.

Good luck to you.

I looked there a little and thought their prices were a little higher than cheaperthandirt.

It depends on the item. They have good sales once you are a customer. Plus their customer service is top-notch, they have an easy to use site and good shipping. I'd still reccomend them. Let us know what you get together and how it all works for you.

Remington and federal have little difference in my gun. Federal shoots just a little better.

We go through almost 25,000 rounds each summer at camp (lots of kids shooting) and find that Federals are the most reliable. Winchesters have a couple of misfires per brick, and Remingtons are bad: about 5-6 duds each 500 rounds.

I'd pick Federals.

Dangit, I was at our town's new Dunham's yesterday, and only bought 3 boxes of the CCI Blazer .22LR on sale at .99 cents/box. Maybe I'll go back out there tomorrow... I didn't know it was good, so I bought three boxes of Federal to balance things out in case it was crap. Huh.

I shoot nothing but Federals in .22 LR. I'll never buy bulk-packed Remingtons again. CCI and Winchesters are pretty good, too.

I bought a bulk box of remington from wally world and they are the worse junk i have ever bought. My marlin 60 is the only thing that will shoot them half way reliable, but still have FTF sometimes. you can look at the rim and it was hit hard, just didn't fire....They shoot pretty good in my S&W 22a, but still have the ftf and they don't feed very well in the clip for whatever reason....They don't shoot hardly at all in my ruger mark II. Out of a clip of 10 only 3 to 4 will shoot. they rest hang about halfway in. Its something to do with the shape of the lead bullet, the federals are fine.....so far I only shot cci through my beretta bobcat 21a....Im new to the whole bulk shooting deal, but what I have found so far is I'll never buy another remington bulk. But on the other hand, my ruger will shoot the remington subsonic perfectly. When you compare the bullets they look the same all but color of the tip....So far federial is been great, and my dad swears by the winchester. But winchester is a little hard to find sometimes....So i guess I will stick with federal.....

sorry for being so long winded. Just giving my thoughts..
