This morning I ordered a Yugo M-98/48 from Classic Arms, Inc. It is listed as a "sniper" by the importer, and has the holes for the scope mounts already drilled. I hope it turns out to be a good shooter.
Does anyone here reload for the 8mm Mauser? I am looking for a cost effective source for brass and bullets. We can do the reloading questions on the reloading forum, to keep from tying this one up, if you wish.
This just seemed like a good starting point.

OH, you got that model. It's a real K98, but it's been tapped for scope mouts. Man if I got one of those I'd put the EAW mounts on the rifle, then get a sniper scope. All of the hunters would have to bow down to me, and everyone who ownes one of those.
I have a Burris mount, and a set of rings, along with an unused scope or two. If the mount fits, I will buy a box of commercial ammo tomorrow, and take her for a spin.
If not, I will order the correct mount, and go from there.
I checked several websites for 8mm Mauser ammo, but all the surplus ammo I found is corrosive. I know how to care for a rifle that has fired corrosive ammo, but choose not to use it.
Its not really a sniper rifle unless it has the scope. Later in production, the Nazis added the screw holes routinely so they could easily add scopes later. Still an excellent rifle though. We're lucky scope production couldnt keep up. The Garand ruled!
The mount I have doesn't line up with the holes, so I will take it to the gunsmith that does my rife work. He is competent and does very good work.
I did find a box of PMC ammo yesterday for $16.00, and fired 6 rounds. Looks like this one will be a good shooter.

It was the cheapest ammo in the local area. I will order brass and bullets by the end of the week and reload my own rounds.
I took the rifle to the gunsmith earlier today. We talked about various mounting systems, top mount VS. side mount, and discussed what would need to be done to the gun for each.
He just called and told me he has a used set of mounts (top mount) and rings that will work. I told him to have at it. I realy didn't want a side mount if it could be avoided.
I will have it back sometime tomorrow, and on the range Saturday mornin'.
I picked up the rifle yesterday. The gunsmith found a set of top mounts, and rings in his scrounge / used box, and installed them.
He also tighened up the front sight, replaced the rear sight spring, and shortened the rear action bolt. The bolt was too long, and prevented the bolt from opening, when tighened.
The total bill was $61.00. Not bad.
I brought it home and installed the scope, and hopefully, I will get to the rifle range sometime today to zero it. I will let you know how it shoots.
the m24 yugo mauser is built in 1924, most models you see are the m24/47 molels. the m48 is a mauser built on captured germen machinerey after WW2. the one nick has is a rearsenoled K98. anything that was on the rifle that dealt with germany was ground off.
