I started my 6 week vacation and decided to make at least some use of my time. What would be a nice stain for the stock furnature on the WASR-10. All the wood on my SKSs that I refinish I used boiled linseed oil and I like that outcome, but I have done it many times and want a different look. Any suggestions?

Maybe something more yellow.

Medium brown Mahogeny(solar-Lux is the maker I think, its hard to read the label its stained.) I put it on a K-31. Its dark and looks like the finish on the
M1 grands.

If you have a Woodcraft store near you, check out the Watco line of finish products. They come in many different tints and actually penetrate, stain, and harden the surface of the wood making it more scratch and dent-resistant. I like the fruitwood color but it has more of a reddish tint and will significantly darken the wood. If you elect to go this route, be VERY careful with your used rags-hang them outside or in an area with good airflow as the solvents used have been known to spontaneously combust if thrown directly in the trash. If you know what type of wood it is, I will post a pic of the fruitwood color on a similar wood.

I have to agree with Toolman with this one, Watco makes a great finish, about a month ago I was looking for a finish for the stock that I'm making for my Marlin. out of all the finishes i tried the Watco was by far the best

This is a very poor pic. This is an example of both bare and finished pieces of Honduras and indian Rosewood using the Watco fruitwood stain. The finished 1911 grip at the top has been waxed and polished as well. http://www1.snapfish.com/slideshow/A...64/t_=55525964

Please note that there is an error in this pic as the honduras rosewood was flipped on the wrong side. the correct pic of it and a piece of African Bubinga with the same finish rubbed on the end is floating somewhere in cyberspace right now. As soon as I figure out what happened, I will resend it.

FWIW, apparently, the flash sort of washes out the actual colors as all of the pics posted should be a bit more red. What can I say, I'm not best friends with Forrest Gump, but we dated the same girls!

IMO a dark stain looks the best on an AK, but then again its your rifle :right:

I dunno, I like the lighter or brighter colors for wood stocks while dark is good for synthetic. I'm becoming a fan of red mahogany.
