Conspiracy in New Orleans?

First off, I am not one for conspiracy theories, but this was interesting to me if this really occured.

I spoke to someone that lives there, and takes pictures for a living there. He was also an avid firearm owner, and that was the reason we spoke. He was telling me that the military went into New Orleans after the national guard was unable to get control of the city. The military collected every gun in the city by asking for it and threating force if needed. He also mentioned that the military was responsible for the death of 4,000 people in New Orleans that were trying to commit crimes most thefts. This really bothered me here.

He also said that the richer parts of town had hired "mercenaries" to guard the 4 corners of that area. They had 50mm machines guns mounted on the corners to stop vandals and people breaking in. No damage had been done from the hurricane, but the military came here first and took the guns busted down doors to the houses and searched for the houses for guns.

He kept mentioning that the entire police force went corrupt stealing escalades and jewelry which I have heard on the news before he had mentioned it.

Has anyone heard of anything like this? I agree the city had to be taken under control...but how could 4,000 people die and it not be made public?
Again this is complete heresay, but I thought this was very interesting to talk about. Especially the part about how they took the firearms away from the legal citizens, and the vandals still have theirs

This is too anecdotal. Too much "a friend of a friend knows a guy who heard . . . "

We'd need far more info from more sources to really put any stock in this. I do believe the entire local government there is as corrupt as anything in Mexico. Giving Mayor Nagin more millions to fix the city is basically paying the fox to rebuild the henhouse.
The new Police Chief there has even freely admitted he'll confiscate citizen's guns again. Never mind that pesky Constitution and Bill Of Rights.
Many of the citizens who came out of that waterlogged hole were undocumented - not aliens, just not known by official agencies. A certain class of citizen likes to remain 'under the Man's notice' - until something happens and they want their handouts. Who knows where many ended up? On the dole in another town, methinks.

New Orleans is a cesspool we will be smelling for a long time to come.

the guy that "told me this" is a photographer. He has sent me some of the most amazing pictures of the devastation there still. He has pictures of people that are just not being found dead in the trees, and cars on top of houses. He is sending me a DVD full of his pictures, and I will post them when I get them.

Some of the richer sections of town did hire private protection to protect their homes and selves, including some blackwater guys who had just come back from Iraq. I watched a tv crew tag along with a national guard unit when it went door to door in a upper middle class neighborhood threatening people who had guns in their home to give them up whether the guns were in evidence or not. Since marshall law had not been declared AND they didn't go to the neighborhoods were the shooting was occurring a lot of people were very upset. Nobody wanted to see dead Guardsman in New Orleans so they stayed out of the areas were they were liked to be shot at. The NRA has long since filed suit againist the city and whoever else.

As to the military killing 4,000 civilians, that is pure urban legend. If the military killed ANYBODY it would have made the news and yes I recall seeing one or two stories, but not 4,000.

Yes some of the cops did just walk away from the job and yes some went bad or perhaps were finally exposed as being bad but the majority of the officers did their jobs.

Yeah, I'd like to see our local cops or guardsmen try and come take my weapons. They would get em, but not before I sent a handful of em home in boxes. Our entire government needs "replaced".

i can believe the part about them shooting looters...i figured that was a given when martial law was implimented. now id have to see a pic of the machine guns mounted on the corners to believe that! and ive been around alot of machine guns and ive never heard of a "50mm" sheesh that would be like a two inch diameter!

No way 4,000 people get killed in front of that much media and nobody notices. Whoever broke the story would be guaranteed a Pulitzer Prize. And the rest of it strikes me as truth woven in with exaggerations.
