Military going back to the .45 !

Just found out that the Military is looking for a new handgun for the troops and they want it in .45 ACP !!! They are going back to the Future as it appears that the 9mm just ain't doing the job ! They will be testing in the near future about a dozen different models to see which one can pass muster. This ought to be interesting!
Long live the .45 auto !!!

its a good round, just the 1911 isnt always a reliable sidearm. The sig's in .45 ACP are very reliable

1911's aren't reliable?!? That would be news to me, and to a whole lot of other people who grew up around them. I've always considered them one of the most reliable weapons ever made. Of course, I'm talking about the originals, not some of the clones.

For an interesting, if somewhat biased, comparison of 1911 vs Glock, check out this page:

troy2000 - YUP! Only two real guns ever made:

1911/1911A1 and the M1 Garand!

1911 / 1911A / GARAND / M1A any of these combinations will do. Preferably the M1A - M14.

They will probably give them to the seasoned war hardened guys and see what they think and if so then slowly work them into the standard. Who knows, maybe they will go back to the 1911.

FM, I have to disagree with you on the reliability of the 1911. All my experiences with them are excellent. I just got a bad arse Kimber last week.
