Redhawk 240gr

I can't handle the stock wooden handled Redhawk at 240gr. Unless I can change to hogue grips I cant shoot this gun. 5 1/2" bbl 44mag. What a kicker! Anybody agree?

Got rid of my 44 Mag for the very same reason.

I was hoping the Hogue grips would be the answer along with some fingerless padded MrMike gloves but the real pressure point is middle one of three joints on my right thumb which gets the kickback from the very top of the wooden handle where it meets the steel frame.. The Hogues offer little protection there.

My dad has one. The wood grips looked really nice, but it just plain hurt to shoot.

We swapped them out for a set of Hogues, and what a difference. It makes a HUGE difference. Go for it without a doubt.

I have a Redhawk with the 5 1/2" barrel. I love it, but I put Pacmayers on it years ago. After a full day of full house loads, it will peel the skin off the web of my hand.

I've had a 44 Redhawk for about a year now and I've tried a few different types of grips now. The Hogue were garbage, didn't fit properly and were huge. The Pacmeyers were okay but still not great (love them on my 686, 10 and HiPower though) So I'm still looking.
As far as the recoil managment when shooting heavy heavy loads I wear a weightlifting glove that has a padded palm. Any sporting goods store, Wal-Mart, or Sears will carry a good selection and a cheap pair will run you about 5 bucks.

love my redhawk

I'm new here, but the first handgun I ever shot was a Smith in44. Been in love with that caliber ever since. Find someone with a 454. Shoot 20 rounds through it, and the 44 will seemlike a !!!!!cat. To cure a flinc, I did the same thing, only was shooting a 7 mag to cure a 270 flinch. Worked like a charm, now I own a 7 myself. It is not the gun or recoil, it is in your HEAD!!!I had to put 50 or 60 rounds through the 7 when I got it just to hit paper consistently, after 300 rds, I dont even think about the R word. The 44 is a great gun, but if you cant get used to it , I am an official gun rescue nut. Just shipp the gun to me, and I take good care of it for you.
