My first 870

Today I went to the gun shop to buy an enfield 303, they had a brand new remington 870 on consignment for 250. Never fired, according to the shop owner, it had never even been loaded! I jokingly asked if they thought the guy would take 200 for it, they called and asked and came back with a yes, he'll take 200 for it. needless to say, I walked out minus the enfield, but with a brand new remington 870 express magnum.I don't think I could have gotten a better deal. Any fellow 870 owners out there know of cleaning tips I should follow? (This being my 1st Remington pump shotgun)And anything in particular I should know about this shotgun , ammo, oiling, precautions etc. I've never been a huge fan of shotguns so I don't know a whole lot about proper care of one. Thanks for any help.

Congrats!
That is a good deal. :right:

This post should do you good for your 870. Written by and for duck hunters who are very hard on guns.

Best,
Jerry

P.S.
They show how to completely take apart the trigger group. Unless it is broken or very very dirty, you don't need to do that. Just hit it with a little gun scrubber, a toothbrush & lightly re-oil.

I absolutely love my 870, it has served me well crashing through timber for deer. But I would be leary of spraying down the trigger group with Gun Scrubber, I'm not sure how the plastic assembly would cope with the solvent. spray RemOil in and blow it out with compressed air and then lightly oil dpending on how much Remoil is left on it. The 870 is the tank of the shotgun world, it might be a little heavier than some others, but it will put up with anythnig you can throw at it

The only thing you have to watch is the plastic shell follower wears out quickly. I keep a spare on hand.
