back to the post... I agree that discretion is the better part of valor. The yl that decided she wanted her purse may have been able to read the perps and determin they were just regular thugs trying to impress each other rather than your hardcore type that take what they want then kill you anyway. Hard to call. What would the police have done if she ran them over after the robbery? Chris, I am glad you weren't there, but I am sorry your friends had to deal with it. How are they handling the results? Had I been the armed bf kneeling beside the car with three armed thugs demanding cash knowing the laws are that I don't have to flee, I would have shot all three, center of mass. Let their Mommas cry over their grave, not my friends over mine.

Now your handgun is useless. i know that doesnt apply to this situation but a police officer new that once when a guy had a .22 and he had tobring him down because of the risk.

AP, they are doing fine, both girls are now armed with pepper spray, and the guy is looking into conceal carry.
I have talked to him about the issues such as being discussed here, that even though he has the gun...it might be best not to pull it.
So far great convo guys!

People still shoot Bullseye leagues with .45 ACP at 50 yards. Are you saying that a .45 is not useful at that range but a .22 handgun is? I'll tell you what...you stand 50 yards away, I will shoot you with one of each, and you tell me which one hurt more. |

Frankly I don't think it's entirely respectful to the painful experience of Chris's friend's and his as their friend to be hashing over what you think "could have" been done in a zillion situations and then fighting each other over it.
That said, I really need to get into better shape so that escape really is an option. Consider that if you can run away the perps are less likely to panic and shoot than if you went at them directly.
Also, I think there could be alot of "out of the box" options. For one thing, if you can duck around a corner and then get some distance you're in a better state to escape than if they would have a clear shot for quite some distance. Also, as far as clear shots go, if you're armed but they're drawn ahead of you, ducking behind cover in order to draw has its place.
If multiple people and a vehicle are involved, out-of-the-box options might include people outside holding on while those inside drive away, and then climbing in later in a safer situation. Or, and this would take guts, facing off the nation's second deadliest weapon - a gun - with the first deadliest weapon - a car.

Interesting Scenario and comments But myself, I refuse to be a victim of Criminals. Part of being a CCW licensee means you need to practice not only accurate shooting but also Quick draw, and multiple target aquisition but,the main thing is to be AWARE of what is going on around you at all times. Had it been me , I'm afraid there would have been 3 dead Perps laying on the ground ...Since most criminals are not accurate /trained shooters and I carry a weapon to even up the odds in any situation and my confidence level in my ability to defend myself and my friends would be very high, this is where training + adrenalin would have immediately taken over .
Thats My thoughts and I'm sticking to it !

MOST people are a better shot with a rifle. i know i am and most people i come in contact with are better shots with a handgun. I was reffereing to a .22 rifle.

Also, at 50 yards, many active shooters will still hit a target reliably and accurately with either a .22 or a .45 handgun. Nobody does the 50 yard dash faster than a bullet.
