Rem Model 14

I recently have gotten back from my grandpas farm where I found a model 14. Everything is in horrible condition except the wood which is in great shape. It has rust from barrel to reciver. Also the slide won't work. I was wondering if it were possible to find take down instructions so I can get the wood off then enabling me to get the rust off with out damaging the wood. Thanks. yh12.

Cool old gun, shame it's in bad shape. I have a parts blowup of one and it looks like there is a stock bolt that screws into the back of the receiver from behind the buttplate. Take the buttplate off, then take that screw out but be careful that you don;t let the screwdriver slip and poke a hole in the stock from the inside out (maybe wrap the screwdriver shank with masking tape so it barely fits in the stock?)
For the front handle it looks like you take out the screw in the side of the slide handle that attaches it to the action bar (tube?) and then get the action bar to come forward out of the action itself. How you are going to do this last bit, I don't know but generally remingtons will have some sort of spring latch or spring powered latch inside the action near the shell tube that you press out of the way.

Getting the stock off will allow you to soak the action in some gasoline which will give you a start. One thing though, I'd get a set of the flatside gunsmith screwdrivers, they will make your life a lot easier and make a lot nicer looking job.
