I have the 710 in 7mm rem mag, and have been nothing short of pleased. I have made a kill shot at 310 yards, and have busted eggs with a fellow shooter friend at 200 yards at the range. It has operated flawlessly. Gunsmiths have their opinions suppose. My gunsmith, a former US Army Sniper team weapons master, told me that the REM. 710 is about as accurate as you can get out of the box. In real hunting situations it has put all but one deer down in his shadow. And that "one" was my fault. I also have a Belgian made Browning 30-06 bar A5. You must know, for me to carry the REM 710 now, I must be pleased with it.

I bought my son a Wal-Mart 710 package when he was in dental school. I sorta knew it probably had some shortcomings when I got it. I told him so when I gave it to him.
Well, he loves his ole-man and wanted it to be the best rifle in the world. He had been shooting with me since he was very little. He shot my Browning A-Bolts, Rugers with Timney triggers, and Remington 700s. So, he knew how to shoot very well and, he knew what a decent rifle was.
He is still a very accomplished shooter and, that 30-06 shoots very accurately. He can now afford any rifle he wants to buy. And, I'm sure he will acquire some nice ones in the future. But, while he is raising these little grand-children of mine and buying a new home, he is satisfied to use this 710 for playing at the range and for shooting hogs and deer.
The scope has limited light-gathering issues, just like most cheaper scopes do. I think he will be getting a better scope soon to give him a few more minutes of shooting time in the evenings.

I have a 710 in 300 win mag that I bought used and have fired at leats 200 rounds through it and it still works like new and is very accurate.I am changing the scope for one with more magnification than the ones that came stock on 710's. But I give the 710 a big thumbs up I want one in 30/06 now

I own 2 of them.. One in .243 that's on pretty much permanant loan to my nephew, and one in 7mm Mag that I'll be using this year.
The both rifles are very accurate. The .243 was used last fall for my nephew's first deer and I sighted in the 7mm Mag today, holding a sub-1" group at 100 yards, shooting 150gr Remington Corelocks..
I sighted the mag in at 1 1/2" over zero at 100 yards, which should put it spot on at 200 and just a touch over 6" low at 300 yards.
It's ugly, but they sure shoot!!

No arguments from me on how they shoot. (seems to be a Rem trait)

I have a 700 BDL in 7mm Mag and a 700 BDL Varmint Special in .308 and they all are excellent shooters!! Truthfully, I've always been a Winchester kind of guy, but I'm starting to wander over to the Rem side..

Got my oldest stepson a used one from Cabela's, a youth model in .243Win, the magazine was missing and the mag latch was broken off. Called Remington and they're shipping a new stock....FREE. Be great to see how it does with a full magazine instead of the single shot mode we've had to do so far. But so far it's been a great shooter.

For what it's worth I got a 710 three years ago. I got it on sale at The Sports Authority. It was only $299.00, a tad over $300.00 with tax. For a rifle and scope for under $300.00 so long as it goes bang when you pull the trigger you should be happy. Shame on you for whinning about minor flaws. If you want the quality of a $700.00 rifle, spend $700.00. For what I paied I feel I got my moneys worth and then some. When I go hunting I do not suffer from I don't want to go there for fear of scuffing my $700.00 rifle. I can driver around in my truck with the rifle at the ready crammed in between the seat and floor boards, I do not have to worry about marring the fine wallnut stock it does not have. Oh, by the way did I mention it is about the most accurate rifle I have.
True the trigger is a littel heavy, and not a smooth as I would like, and the action is a littel stickey, again not as smooth as I would like, but for under $300.00 it does the job it was intended to do. Here is a target I recently shot sighting in a new scope I mounted on it. That was at 100 yards with Winchester 180 grn. Super-X ammo.
So far no deer yet it has taken me three years to get drawn, and so far after 3 days hunting I have seen only about 10 doe'es and no bucks yet.

I have one in 7mm RM and it does the trick. Nice selection of calibers, dirt cheap, and ready to go "out of the box" as mentioned. It was the first firearm I ever bought and I got it because it was cheap. I'm not the least bit disappointed with it.
