The New XD-45!

I have been waiting for this baby for a while now, and finally having shot one I am a full supporter. I am actually thinking of selling my Mil-Spec 1911 for one of the new XD-45's. I know that my family will dis-own me, but the idea has been racing through my mind since I saw the 5'' tactical version. What do you guys think?

I love the xD series!

I am looking for one to carry. I find them feeling better than the glock, but they are just a tad bit top heavy compared to the Glock.

I sold my XD9 and am currently looking for an XD45 myself. Loved the XD9 but hated the cartridge it was chambered for!

I just don't know if I will be willing to sell my proven 1911 for a synthetic gun.

All guns are synthetic, since they are not naturally occuring in nature.

You know what I mean, iron and steel are natural minerals found throughout the world while, plastics such as plowmer, are completely man made.

I won't be getting rid of my 1911 either, but the XD is a fine firearm for self defense.

Keep the 1911s, save for the XD. Cover all the bases in good time.

I thought long and hard and relized that the 1911 is a better gun and just because there are more rounds to shoot doesn't make it any better. What I particulary don't like about the XD-45 is the force it takes to pull back the massive slide on thing.

XD's are supposed to be one of the best things to happen in the polymer pistol world. It's a glock with a 1911 grip angle, loaded chamber indicator, striker indicator, grip safety, and is SEXY!

I'm planning on getting the 4" 9mm model.

Let me tell you a story...my oldest son came to me about a year ago talking about the XD-9 his friend has, that he got a chance to shoot. I told him that you could not give me a gun like that. My son knows I am a 1911 guy and the XD-9 was of no interest to me. So he let it drop. I march of this year I walked into a gunstore in Victoria Texas looking for an new 1911. I pointed at one in the case to look at and another fellow caught my attention so I looked away. My friend stuck an 4" XD-45 into my hand instead of the 1911 I was looking at. While still looking away, I closed my hand around the grip and immediately realized I had something in my hand that felt different but really good. I looked back and low & behold I was holding something I never thought I would. Long story short. Its mine and has about 1500 rounds through it. It is by far the most pleasant gun I have ever shot, it is so accurate it is boring, I love the 13+1 capacity and it now rides on my right hip as often as my prized Wilson Combat 4" Professional. Some one asked me the other day if the gun was any good. I told them that I am sure glad the the XD-45 was not the first semi-auto I had ever bought. He asked why and I said because it would be the only semi-auto I woud now own....it is that good.

Here's mine with a porch light:

and here is a sample of the accuracy it is capable of:

That's exactly what happened to me with the Steyr M40. I wasn't sure what I'd get first, and got the M40, and haven't gotten any regular handguns since.

I would love to get the XD-45, but I am not going to sacrifice my 1911 to do so. I will end up getting one soon enough after I decide what bolty to get.

I like the X-D series. Ever since I got to see Ox's gun Iv'e liked them. Give up any 1911. Nope. .45 ACP redundancy, Ah, mabe. I don't have a 9mm Semi auto nor .40 yet. I'd most likely consider one in the afore mentioned calibers.

Cov45, welcome to the site.

xD is a great piece when holding it in your hand.

What is your need for the pistol? carry? or just plinking?

I personally carry an XD40. I would't trade it for the world. I typically wear mine concealed since I work in some rough parts of town. It's probably not the best gun for that, but most of the time it works out well for me. All that being said, it's the only handgun that I own. But hopefully not the last. Next on the wish list is a 1911.
