I told my wife that i had taken interest in older rifles and would like to start collecting them, starting off with the cheaper more common ones. well, for my birthday she suprised me with a enfield No.4 Mk1. i took it to the range this weekend for the first time and found that it consistantly shot about 10 inches high. i did not expect it to be dead on, so i wasnt discouraged, but am having trouble figuring out how to adjust the sights to fix the problem. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Drake, windage and/or elevation on the #4 MK1 is corrected by adjusting the front sight. To correct windage, just move the sight either left or right. To correct elevation, in your case, change the front sight blade . Instructions are too long to post here.

If you have the adjustable aperture sight, flip it up and adjust as necessary. If you have the two-aperture "L" shaped sight, never mind. Follow the previous poster's instructions.
I find that many milsurp rifles have a minimum setting of 200 yards - they will shoot high at 100 yards. The 'battle sight' of the adjustable peep sight (when laying down) is set for approximately 300 yards. Thus it will shoot quite high at 100 yards.
the sights on my gun are the rear sight flips back and forth over with a peep hole in each one. i am guessing that this is the sight they are reefering to as the 300 and 600 yard adjusting sight. the front sight is a single leaf which i dont see any apparent way to adjust. the rear sight has a screw in the side of it but im pretty sure that acts as the hinge for it to rotate, so i didnt take it off. i apologize for not knowing alot of the terms associated with the guns, i just have always been a good shot but never learned about the guns. i would like to start learning it all though. thanks for youre help and if you have anymore suggestions they are appreciated. if you think i may have to change my front sight, a recomendation on where to get one would help. thanks again
If you can't find the taller front sight, I've had good success with a bit of JB Weld added to the factory front sight blade, then carefully filed down while shooting, to find the exact height for the load I'm shooting.
Sportsman's Guide catalog has the adjustable aperture sight for the No.4 rifle - it just bolts right on in place of the simple flip sight.
Order the third item down on the list: "Rear Sight, Micrometer, Milled" and spend another 99 cents for the schematic while you're at it. Even with shipping, you'll get out for less than 30 bucks.
I have the "micrometer"rear sight on my MK4 and can adjust it down enough to shoot LOW at 100 yards. It has lots of clicks for a wide range of adjustment.
It does flip up and down. My gunsmith installed mine, so the removal and instalation of the rear sight wasn't done by me. I think you are correct in removing the screw, changing the sight, and reinstalling the screw.
This sight has a much smaller appature (hole) and should help fine tune the weapon's accuracy.
Thats not a screw , it's a pin and will slide out . There's also a spring under the sight which presses up , so you'll have to press down on the sight to pull the pin out .
This has nothing to do with sights, but your wife rocks! Wish mine was that cool. She doesn't mind the guns, but I doubt she would go off and surprise me with one for my B-day.
