Question Terrorism: Overused phrase?

I've noticed something lately. Seems like everything bad someone does is TERRORISM.

In our local paper there was an article about this guy who is really ticked about stray cats. I agree with him on a lot of points, but he refered to the cat's fecal matter being on many places of his property as biological terrroism.

I was reading a hockey article about a Russian player who basically defected from his club to play in the NHL. The director of the Russian team referred to the 'stealing' of the best Russian hockey players as "pure sports terrorism". SPORTS TERRORISM? Come on now.

What do you guys think???????

ps I don't dispute the fact that there are real terror threats in the world. But cat poo terrorism?

ter·ror·ism-n.

The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

I think you might be right on that one. I remember when I was about 12 or so, I had a minibike, and I used to ride it around to my friend's houses. So one day, this neighbor lady calls the cops and tells them that I am terrorising the neighborhood. I wasn't even going fast, and the thing had a muffler, so its not like it was a Harley or something.

besides the obvious meaning of the word, I've come to associate this word with our rights being stolen, our gas being over priced and the cow poke telling me unbelievable stories...that's just for starters......yeah, I'm sick of hearing it and having it used as an excuse to screw/spy on me too!

Rates right up there with 'stress'. Anything goes wrong, you don't want to do something or you fail.....STRESS caused it.

Just the latest buzzword. Remember when everything was "Turbo" this n that, or when everything was "Radical"?
This too shall pass . . .

I might agree about the danged cats though. If I find any cat-claw marks on my MC seat, I'll soon have a new pair of cat-skin riding gloves . . .

I agree with Big Dog, just a current media fad that will pass as many have before. When the media gets tired of saying "This dastardly display of Total Terrorism", it will be gone just like the terms "Rock on" and "suweeet."

I sure hope it stops getting thrown around. It should only be used when there is actually terror going on. Car bombs and such.

Consider it a priority buzz word for at least the next two years.

I suspect the term you used, "smart folks", actually was used in the direct opposite.
