Pretty close but the AR does seems to me to have a little less noticable recoil. I have shot the two one right after the other with the same ammo just to answer the same question your asking.

I have fired my AR approx 3000 rnds and my mini-14 approx 500 rnds. I would also say the AR recoil seems smoother. I guess it would be due to the spring in the stock taking up some of the recoil? But my AR also has the target barrel and is much heavier which soaks up the felt recoil too.

I agree....if you have shot a mini14 quite a bit...the ar will seem like its just sitting there when you shoot it.

I agree too. There could be many reasons - greater weight to the AR, higher barrel axis of the mini, general elasticity of the whole AR rifle, recoil spring specs, and don't forget buttplates.

There is no real recoil on a .223 to me. A 12 guage slug has recoil.
