| Member | What are some good books to read for someone like me? I'm an active duty Marine that lives no where near a base, currently in eastern Europe. I often run into those liberal types. I'm only 21 and could probably school some old folks back in the state because I've had to arm myself with knowledge just to get by in the different places that I've lived. I've read "Saddam's Secrets" By: Iraqi General Georges Sada. That gave me all kinds of great information on the war in Iraq from past to present. It's a great read if anyone could get their paws on it. I am intending on reading "Unintended Consequences" By: John Ross (I'd put $ on it that he's even a member of Gun and Game). Basiacally what I'm looking for are some pro-gun, pro-war, pro-anti-terrorism, anti-ACLU, type of books that pump you up and make you chew your finger nails. Thanks in advance. | Member | ADL, I've heard of that one but from the 100s of books that the Corps sends us, believe it or not, we don't have that one. Thanks for reminding me. Jerry, Thank you for yours too. It's just another job, with more job-satisfaction then any civilian could ever experience. Take care Jerry. |

| Senior Member ![]() | Ann Coulter's How to talk to a Liberal has some very good and well backed facts in it on various subjects as does Godless, they are not specifically about Iraq or Terrorism, but have chapters on them.

| Senior Member ![]() | I have the book "Unintended Consequences" and after reading it consider it the best book of that type that I have ever read! It presents different types of people and tells of the best and worse, the cowards and the real heros, and is factual up to the present where the fiction begins, all the ways from the Warsaw ghetto during WWII up to the present and into the future. If any book were to be called awsome, this is it,IMHO. Of course it wasn't available in any book stores so I had to order it,but it was worth it. ![]()

| Member | I don't know about those types of books, but the best Marine historical accounts book I ever read is "Never without Heroes, 3rd Recon in Vietnam". I was given a copy of this book by a member that contributed to it, and is a personal friend and hero. I was at his bronze star ceremony 2 years ago, and met several of his team members. He survived 3rd degree burns over 2/3 of his body, and has been an inspiration to me as long as I have known him. He is a union electrician and I have worked on several jobs with him. He has helped me see the sunny side when I only saw storm clouds. |

| Senior Member ![]() | Hmm, I take it you read something other than Ann Coulter, Troy. Any suggestions as to whom I should read next? And no, this isn't sarcasm, I like to read both sides of an issue as well as different approaches. Thanks in advance.

| Senior Member | I would recommend the series by Web Griffin, titles "The Corps". Its a fictional, 8+ book series about various Marines and their role in the Corps, and he manages to keep them tied together throughout every book. I've been reading the series non-stop for a couple weeks. Griffin has several other military related series; plenty to keep someone occupied. Some of the stories get a little repetive, but if you keep reading he makes up for it. It says a lot of "good things" meaning that the stories are almost to good to be true. Great series. Also, Oliver North wrote a book called "Mission Compromised", which is an absolute excellent read. I would defintley recommend that one. "The Proud !!!!!!!s" by E. Michael Helms is also a great book. "When !!!! Was In Session" is pretty good. "Marine Sniper" is great; its about a Vietnam Marine sniper (Carlos Hathcock) who held the highest kill score during that time, and talks about his struggles with his wounds after saving several marines lives. Well, thats a few. If you can only read one book from up there, I would read "Mission Compromised" by Oliver North. It doesn't have as much "ummph" (for lack of better word) as "The Corps" series does, but its still a great read. I would recommend getting my hands on a couple of those, its the kind of thing that makes me want to go see the recruiter.
