Destroing Garands by Dutch Goverment

Hi,

As a new member I like to introduce myself.

My name is Rob and I live in Europe.
I own, among other things, a Garand M1D (see avatar )

As referring to the message introduction:
The Dutch goverment lend several (some 170+) garands to gunclubs in The Netherlands after putting out of use in the dutch army.
Now they are taking them back and they will probably be destroyed by melting them
The clubs are not able to buy them according to some stupid agreement which was signed in 2001 or 2002.
Many clubs used these garands for outdoor shooting for members that don't own a rifle or want to shoot something else.
(we can only own 5 (yes five) guns)
Gundealers are also not able to buy these weapons and the clubs will not get them back demilitarised for displaypurpose either.

So in the end the politicians can say: we have done something to make the world safer and also they have destroyed a piece of history. (a great deal of these garands were WW2 vetrans )

Welcome to the forums first off!

It seems so sad to destroy those guns! Sorry to hear that man....M1D's are very hard to come by.

Angry

We can thank Kofi F'ing Annan and the Useless Nations criminal organization for this. I firmly believe they are pressuring the European nations into destroying surplus guns instead of making them available tot he collector market. The same with surplus ammo. They are limiting the amount we can get - eventually they'll end it completely.
A lot of history is getting destroyed, in the name of "Gun Control". Wonder how many drive-bys, how many murders, how many robberies, are done with M-1 Garands . . .

Gun Control? Or People Control?

Um, it's pretty well known that every political theorist from Machiavelli to Mao advocated disarming one's enemies. At least we know where we stand with Kofi, the EU and the Useless Nations.
Keep your powder dry!
Cheers,
Ben

I hate reading stuff like this. Garands are so rich in history, it's a shame to see them destroyed.

They lent them to gun clubs, did we "lend" them to them? I'm not really sure how that all works out.

Most of the "Lend-Lease" guns sent over there never made it back. We .22 collectors occasionally see the Mossberg M42Mb twentytwo rifles back here, after serving the British in WWII. Used to see the vendors bring in Garands and M1 Carbines from Europe - but no more it seems. Those Greek and Danish M1 Garands the CMP has were probably the last returns we'll see. Very sad state of affairs.
Israel was given a lot of M1 Carbines by the Nixon administration, and they sat unused from my understanding. Wish we could get them back!

Chris wrote "M1D's are very hard to come by"

That's true!!!
I have been lucky. When I was looking for a Garand I happend to get in touch with a gundealer that had EIGHT M1D's.
Me and a friend both purchased one and the others were gone within 2 weeks to all over Europe.
Mine is from 1940 and that of my friend is from 1941 and happen to be of the dutch army
The only thing is that it is equipped with the T-37 flashhider.
When I'm able, I will get a M2 flashhider for it but currently the american (E)gunshops do not send these kind of parts outside America
I just seen an other M1D for sale for ± $ 2500 last week and it's gone already!

About the Lend-Lease: the Garands in The Netherlands are not lend-lease but the dutch goverment purchased them! (after the lend-lease period that is!!)

How quickly they forget.....Germany never invaded swizerland, not because it was "neutral" (hitler could give a damm), but because it's citizens were armed to the teeth.
poland, and the other victoms of the "lightning war" etc had almost no personal arms for its citizens.
what a waste...!!!!, they could export them to the USA and have people lining up to buy them (Like me!)
P.S....Welcome to the forum!
Bob

Well, 17 days until our next gun show. As many guns as I want to buy, I think it's finally time for me to bite the bullet, so to speak, and buy one. As long as nothing goofy happens, I should have atleast $800 to take with me. I might be able to pump a few hundred bucks out of my Dad also. I'm guessing for $750 to $900 I should be able to get a decent old gun. I don't want a safe queen(not going to get one for that price anyway), but a nice gun to maybe stick a new stock on and reblue it, or whatever. A project that I can have fun with at the same time.

Thumbs down disrespect for the weapon that set us free in 1945

Hi,

For 3 years I was able to juse a M1 garand for target shoting at 100 meters .... suddenly it was gone, the dutch goverment is destroing it now
3 of the members of our gunclub where lukky , they could buy a M1 two years agow for 50 euro's ( 62,50 USD )

instead of selling the last M1's , the dutch goverment prevers to distroy them , and with it part of our history and taxmoney ..... ????

but .... I'm a happy man , this morning I was able to buy a Springfield M1 garand 30-06 in Germany ( of all places ) for only 980 euro's ( 1225 USD ) .... thanks to our wonderful goverment .

with kind regards, dutch Rob.

@Dutch Rob.

Ik weet waar jij hem gekocht heb :ballons:

This man in Germany is a kind of a specialist in US weapons. He sell's M1's, M1A's, 1903's and other "goodies" and a lot of the dutch shooters that bought a garand bought it from him!
(maybe because its close to the border:lucky: )

You mean a list of the firearms offered by this German man you spoke of? I'm sure many of our guys here would love to know another source for Garands, et. al.... as long as we can get them here in the states.

@ just a car:
No this german now sells 1903-A3's with new (1944) barrels and new stocks (those with the pistol grip!)
He sells them for 1550 euro = 2050 dollar!
I think his supply of Garands went dry otherwise he could sell a lot to dutchmen that lost them because of our government!
Maybe he will get them someday?
He sells all over europe so probably also to the US I there is somebody that want's to take the long way home!

Rob
