love it!!but...

sensorship is a little outta control. I had athe word for a friendly cat sensored out! It was not in a vulgar or rude context because I know this is a family show. I was refering to a gun being really tame and the p.... was erased. This is as crazy as the democrats wanting to take our guns away because a few (insert your favorite expletive here) use them for wrong doing. Other than that, I love the conversations that go on here, and I have learned a lot Thanks for listening.

They try to make this a family friendly site. Take it for what you will.

We aren't censoring what you have to say. You can still post the message and get your point across.

The internet has enough adult sites and forums, and this one isn't going to become one. A little off color humor here and there, but I do try to keep it as family friendly as I can.

I see a lot of forums that are as racy as watching a Kid Rock concert. I enjoy knowing that my family can look over my shoulder when I am here and not worry about them seeing something objectionable.

The word censor is a little touchy, but it doesn't seem too intrusive to me.

Yep, Shebear has a tendency to read over my shoulder at times. Nice to know I needn't worry that she will smack me for something written by someone else. I get into enough trouble on my own.

Please Read

My reply to zen900 in the Ruger forum about the 44 magnums kick, and tell me that I said anything wrong. I absolutly agree about the other forums, but I will stand by my belief that I said nothing that could even be twisted into a bad remark by the strictest of standards. Maybe I should have used the word "puppydog" instead. I don't know much about computers, but the only thing I can think of ,is that a computer was programmed to pick out certain words, or combinations of letters and automatically censors them( kinda like a spellcheck?). I don't think that any person would have taken offense to what I said. I use that word all the time when I talk to my 3 year old, and believe me, Momma would not put up with what I am being accused of.

Most forums have a feature of an automatic word censor. You most likely just triggered the auto censor feature. I have one on my forum. I even have used it just to mess with troublemakers who call certain names or use pet phrases meant to demean others. In this case, you probably just hit an auto censor. It is nothing personal, just the software doing what it was programmed to do.

Anything that aggravated me that much, I'd probably just not participate.

Thanks for the explanation

I wasn't trying to start anything, just wanted an explanation. Like I said , I dont know a whole lot about computers, just how to "surf". Now I know it wasnt anything personal. I am enjoying reading what is being discussed on the forums so much, I cant wait to get home from work to participate. Most of the guys I work with dont hunt.

I guess I better start calling wifey pooh "doggy cat" then, LOL.
While I support Chris on the ban on certain offensive words I do have to point out that it can be carried a bit too far.
C'mon...I have seen the word 'freakin' and "friggin" in here and ANYONE in the 21st. century knows it is a substitute for the other "f" word but we allow it in here? Why? Dunno.
The words that are not allowed in here are allowed on every other major cable or satelite television station but not in here.
I made an issue sometime back with Jesse about censorship....don't confuse censorship with religious thinking and beliefs and that is exactly what is happening here.
I don't want to hear the sorry excuse that someone might JUST happen to look in here and see some off-colored remarks as a basis for banning normal....everyday...speech. If they choose to come in here...or to hang around in here...(their choice..or chosse to... is the key operative phrase here).....then they have to accept the language associated with ANY public arena. PERIOD!
I've seen the term "wuss" in here and "wuss" is a variation of "puss" and that is short for &^ssy ..well you get my drift. But that, apparently, is OK.
And...let's not be "stick our heads in the sand" naive to think that the youngsters don't already know that.
But with all that rhetoric........we've heard it all..........
Why do we..the G&G community care to take a lil off the center approach?
Because we care...we have values..........we respect others as we would ourselves!
Besides..this is Chris' home and he has invited us into it and if he (like we would in our own home) decides that certain words are "Ver botten"...then so they shall be!

Well Said Dale.

Admittedly, I am fairly guilty of the famed "Friggin'/Frickin'" variance, but if you knew me in real life you'd know that is just how I talk, lol.

To sum it all up, I'd say that to have (at current) 5,237 members, and to please all 5,237 would be impossible. To have that many different people here, I'd say we have done a bang up job at being as nice and friendly as we possibly can.

I would offer a suggest, that you guys do (Though it takes some extra work..a few minutes each day to change member settings) what I have done at Hybridtalk.com, which is create a whole different area (easy to do, just grant validation, or some other permission setting for people who request access) like our "black hole" area. Then you can have people with wild opinions go crazy in there and not drive off the family oriented folk on the main site (who do not see those threads unless they ask for entrance or a key). It works great for both my forum and FF&F too.
Bob

I get a laugh at the words that get sensored. It's a shame we live in a society when Silvester !!!!!cat can't say his whole name.

As much as I am against censorship of any kind, I do have a large family and there's constantly little kids roaming around where I leave my laptop and it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about them seeing something nasty. At least at this site.

I usually find creative ways to express myself without using the dirty words.

A thesaurus can be entertaining.

As much as I am an advocate for liberty, I tend to look at it differently. For the same reasons you mentioned, it is the responsibility of adults to censor inappropriate sights, images, verbiage, and situations that are inappropriate for youth. It is also incumbent upon responsible citizens to censor these things for the public in general. There is a difference between liberty and "taking liberties". Note that I speak about personal responsibility and private sector in regards to censorship, not necessarily governmental intrusion.
