Question Hush Money?

While I was washing some dishes yesterday a thought occured to me.
When someone gets a settlement that party must usually sign a document stating that they will never discuss the case with anyone.
Now since this is common practice even if it was it would not be called hush money.
If you and your family received $5,000,000+,tax free would you blab, especially since you know that no one would believe you and you would also be committing an illegal act and the payor could take action against you and yours?

I'ld have no problem at all with a law that says any agreement reached in a local, state or federal court must be made public. A legal system that isn't transparent isn't worth a ****.

From what I understand these agreements were not reached in a court, but were made between two parties, the gummint and the injured parties, with our tax dollers,of course.

If I had received that kind of money, I'd be too busy having fun and driving my new Hummer to the shooting range everyday to bother about talking.

Settlements are usually the result of someone suing, even if they're eventually settled out of court. Maybe we could say that once a lawsuit is filed, any settlement must be made a matter of public record, even if it's done out of court.

I don't believe the government should be making secret deals with anyone, period. If we don't know what they're doing, how can we keep track of them and call ourselves a democracy?

For enough money, I'll never speak again. My price is high, but for a reasonable offer I'd leave here permanently.

Settlements are outside the court.

While I do not like the idea of shutting the truth up, stopping senseless things is also big plus and savings on John Doe taxpayer.

Things that are causes of life and death I feel are a tad bit different.

Cool

The concept isn't new. However, it would be interesting to know if a gag order was part of th monies the government gave to the so-called victims. I never understood why the government should give them money and not to me. sure, no family member of mine died at twin towers but, besides political reasons, why is the government to blame? It's just like the OJ thing, if the criminal court found him innocent, then how could he be tried in civil court? I realize that criminal and civil are two different things but, it would seem the criminal court would supersede the civil court, ergo, the criminal court says innocent then there should be no civil case to try. Oh well, since when did common sense prevail anywhere?

Well, I think the government owes me some money. I'm sick of hearing about 9/11! I'm sorry the folks got killed, of course I am, but, it's time to move on. The media and government been annoying me so much i got a head ache! How much longer we gotta listen to this whining? Every year you say? Well, I want a check. This whining is making me ill and I think the government owes me just as surely as those folks who got to cough from the dust of the building.
