Ok so I just bought a M1A SOCOM II rifle yesterday and tested it out at the local range...This 7.62 NATO rifle is one impressive piece, It has a 16 inch barell and I mounted a Surefire light and I'm in the process of getting an electronic sight mounted. Boy this rifle kicks @$$...I highly reccommend it(if you have the extra dough) I think I'm gonna take this with me the next time I go whistle pig huntin...

I think that gun is nuts, but I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Triplesixkoe,

How do you like the forend? I'm thinking about some type of M-1A in the future, and I was just getting used to the original SOCOM, then they come out with this thing! My wife is into AR's big time, and she loves the look of the thing, but I'm a little more conservative in my tastes. Is there any other type of forend grip avaliable besides the vertical "motorcycle style" kind you see on just about every AR? Also, what about mounting optics? Do you have to use a extended eye relief "scout" type? Thanks in advance. Bill T.

If the barrel was 18" before the brake, it would have much better ballistics and much less muzzle flash.

Do you speak of the SOCOM or the M1A version? The ballistics on mine are spot on. I've fired a three inch group at 200 yds.

Of course I have a nine power scope mounted as well......haha.

I'm sorry, I meant 18" vs the 16" SOCOM. A longer barrel is of course better ballistically.

I have a SA Socom Mk I and my optics (SA 6x40 Government model mil dot 7.62mm scope) mounted on a weaver/picanny rail raised mount(allows unobstructed use of iron sights) screwed into reciver(stock mounting holes) - all it cost me was removal of my stripper clip piece. It does really well. It can be removed and reattached as needed if necessary. Does anyone know of a lightweight tactical bipod that i can mount without being attached to my barrel? I was looking at a Harris Front fold bipod. Am I correct that it can be attached at the sling attachment point? I aslo would like to know of a recommended Tactical sling for this weapon. Any suggestions?
