WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The United States plans to take in about 10,000 Burundian refugees -- many of whom fled their landlocked Central African nation as far back as 1972 -- from Tanzania, the U.S. State Department said on Tuesday.
"We are planning to offer permanent resettlement to a group of Burundian refugees who've been in western camps in Tanzania," State Department spokesman Tom Casey told reporters, saying an estimated 10,000 people would be offered residence.
Burundi has been plagued by civil strife since it achieved independence from Belgium in 1962. Thousands of Burundians from the Hutu majority fled ethnic massacres by the powerful Tutsi minority in 1972.
Hundreds of thousands more Burundians fled to neighboring countries during a 12-year civil war that killed roughly 300,000 people before it ended last year with a U.N.-backed peace agreement. (Watch to see what life is like for people on the run -- 1:00)
Casey said the United States agreed to taken in the refugees at the request of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. Washington received the request within the past year, he said.
A UNHCR spokesman said the agency seeks to help refugees return to their original country or to integrate into the communities where they have fled. If neither is possible, it looks to resettle them in third countries.
"This group felt that they were unable or unwilling to return," said UNHCR spokesman Tim Irwin. Local integration also was not an option, he said, leading to the decision to seek permanent homes for them elsewhere.
He said the group had become known as the 1972 Burundians -- referring to the year they left the country -- and that many were born in Tanzania and had no direct experience of Burundi.
They could register as Republicans and move to a "Right to Work" (anti-union)state,and get a job paying 8 or 9 dollars an hour working in a textile mill....
The problem is teaching them a work ethic and self-reliance, after they were raised in a refugee camp with absolutely no exposure to either.
It may not be their fault; they didn't choose to be born and raised in those surroundings. But that's cold comfort to the people here who will have to deal with them.
The language barrier will be a bigger obsticle than work ethic for the first generation.Life in those refugee camps is no doubt a constant fight for survival. They will be very willing to work.If we let them.
Our inner city projects are what are full of people that have never been exposed to a good work ethic,or self reliance.
They probably are already registered Democrats, and have their pictures taken for New York Cabdriver licenses.
The LFS tried to locate 150 of these refugees in my town with no warning.(Lutheran Family Services). The LFS is one of the most diabolical political refugee relocation organizations ever devised. It regularly unloads 20,000 African refugees into the US explicitly to install them as future voting Democrats. These LCS refugees are people who literally have no coping skills at all. Theyve never seen a kitchen sink nor can they speak or write English. They are met here in the US by Protestant non-Lutherans and are immediately indoctrinated into the Democratic ideology. Being Lutheran myself I find this situation intolerable. The LCS is truly a front organization. The LFS is purely up to no good. The LFS headquarters is in Columbia SC at 1440 Broad River Rd 29210. Their official name in my phone book is: Lutheran Family Sevices Refugee Resettlement ph# 803-750-9917. I doubt there is a Single Lutheran in the entire LFS administration. The least of your worries is illegal Mexican immigation.
"Explicitly" to install them as "voting Democrats?"

My word. The DEPRAVITY of these people! Can you show me where in their charter they "explicitly" state that as their aim, so I can help spread the alarm?
Explicit: 1. Fully and clearly expressed; leaving nothing implied.
In all seriousness, you lost me when you mentioned Democratic "ideology." That's a loaded word, and I doubt you could give me a rational, coherent exposition of Democratic ideology that would hold water with anyone this side of Rush Limbaugh.
If you'd like to try, remember that I'm a Democrat myself, so you aren't going to be able to bluff me. You'll have to come up with the real deal.
I also doubt the cost-effectiveness of coming up with Democratic voters by importing them from Africa, and going thru the years it takes to make them citizens. Seems to me there'd be easier, cheaper and faster ways of adding Democrats to the rolls.
Throwing them into neighborhoods is a terrible idea. I would think a more gradual transition from what they've had already, with people working with them who earnestly care, and aren't out to push ideologies.

Now, of course, they come from south-O-da border.
