Sighting in a new barrel

Hello
I'm new to this site today
Hope you guys can help me out.
I have a newly rebarreled 1943 Garand with a brand new CMP barrel.
When I took it to the range the last time it was shooting very low at 100 yards with the rear sight maxed out. Do you guys think its the new barrel maybe being installed wrong? Or could it be the sights or just operator error?

have you ever used sights like are on the M1 before? if you havent, i would lean towards operator error. for 100yds, 6 or 8 clicks up from the bottom should get you close.

topshelf - lefty o is correct, but some of the T105E rear sights require 10 to 12 clicks up. Yes, you really need to be sure you understand how to use the sights on the M1 Garand.

I have seen some M1 Garands that required at least 18 clicks up, to be zeroed at 100 yards.

The sights are interchangeable with the M14/M1A except that those sights use meters, not yards. The M1 Garand sights were calibrated in yards. If you really insist on using the yard/meter marks on the elevation knob, then be my guest; most M1 Garand users find their zero, by shooting and having an observer spot for them, after that, the adjustments are simply clicking the sight up/down, left/right, as needed.

Remember, the front sight is always adjusted in the opposite direction you want the bullet strike to move; the rear sight is adjusted in the direction you want the bullet strike to move. If you forget this, then hold your hands out in front of you with your elbws bent, place one hand above the other to simulate the sights, and the hand representing the rifle barrel below it; move your hands to see that when the front sight drops, the barrel must be raised to keep the front sight on the target and the bullet strike on the target.
