Rifle numbers

I was in France during my summervacations.
I visited a lot of sites/musea in Normandie and was able to write down 3 of the rifle numbers that were on display there.
If somebody is interested I can drop it here!
(a lot of rifles couldn't be approached and one was a ground find and all rusted and almost no wood left!)

Yes I would like to know the numbers. It is always nice to see if something is close to anothers numbers. I would love to have a found rifle. I think there is more to that rifle than most others as it would seem the owner lost it during the war. Its history started there and ended there. Rick B

Rick,

Here you go:

Grandcamp-Maisy; Ranger Museum- (SA??) 2602591
Saint-Come-Du-Mont; Dead Man's Corner Museum - (SA) 1408918 + 4 others of which I couldn't get to the numbers
Sainte-Mere-Eglise; Airborne Museum - (SA) 2130322 + 5 or 6 others + the ground find after 50+ years

We did 2 museums a day but a lot of rifles on display in those museums are on static display.
So, we hit 6 museums and went to the cemetry on Omaha Beach. It was a very impressing 3 days and there was more to see than we could.
So we definily go back in the near future!

I think when you google for those museumnames you might be able to get more info than I can give you.
I know the Dead Man's Corner museum has a nice website.

Greetz,

Rob

@ oxford - You just beat me to it because I had to look for the info in the vacationordner.

to ad one more site:
Omaha Beach Museum- Visitez le Musée Mémorial d'Omaha Beach

Ed, I would suggest to get some info at the "office de Tourisme" the french tourist office
OFFICE DE TOURISME INTERCOMMUNAL DE BAYEUX
Bayeux is the city in the part of Normandie (Calvados) in which Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and Sword Beach are.
Utha Beach is in an other part (La Manche) but If you ask the Tourist office they can come up with a lot of Hotels or "bed and breakfast" places.
We camped on a campingground right at the edge of Omaha Beach and a little museum on the street corner dday-omaha.com

Also nice to visit will be: http:\\www.WW2Museums.com It is a Dutch site but has an English counterpart and a lot of museums dedicated on WW2 are on it.

If there are things somebody wants to know about these european stuff I can give it a shot so please ask!

Rob

PS: it's almost becomming an Off-topic item, Sorry about that!

Thumbs up

When you start talking about historical things there's lots of twists and turns. We just sort of followed one of the turns. All very interesting to me, though.
