I remember the night we found out that Ford had lost to Carter. It was a very dark night. Most of us didn't even talk about it. We couldn't believe America wanted a peanut picker as prez.

Agree with them or not, both Carter and Ford seem to at least have been honest and trying hard to do what they thought best for the country.

I do think both of them got too deeply into the "human rights" thing. It should never have been our job to try to straighten out the way countries all over the world treat their own citizens.

1.Jimmy Carter gave us double digit inflation, the highest since WWII.

2.The gas crisis.

3.The Iranian hostage situation.

4.Gave away the American canal in Panama.

5.Set up Nicaragua and Grenada as communist base in the western hemisphere. I hope someone has the stones to challenge me on Somoza vs the Sandinistas, considering I was there and didn't get my information from CNN, CBS,NBC, ABC and the New York Times.

6.Gave the Soviets the green light to invade Afghanistan. (that's in Yeltsin's book by the way for those who know how to read. Carter was pegged as weak on defense from his ellection according to Yeltsin and the Soviets knew he'd do nothing).

Oh wait I'm wrong....He did do something....We boycotted the Olympics!!
Yea Buddy!! That put them filfthy reds in their place.

7.Invited the Shah of Iran to Washington and told him of our unwavering support for his regime.....6 weeks later the Ayatolah Khomeni showed up from exile in Paris and the rest is history. In fact history that has yet to be written.

8. Invited Castro to open up his prisons, insane asylums and allowed him to deport all his filfth to us. Were still paying for it too.

9. DID NOT bring peace to middle east with Camp David accords.

10. I've KNOWN Jimmy Carter most of my life. I knew him as governor and spoke to him twice while he was president. I've been to his home in Plains. Went and saw him at the Governor's mansion while he was Governor and spoken with and attended nine of his lectures at the Carter Center and at Emory University here in Atlanta after he left office.

Yes boys and girls I'm from and in Atlanta.

Gerald Ford....

1. Only man to serve as president that was not ellected.

2. Pardoned Nixon.

3. Screwed up the Mayaguez rescue.

4.Fell down stairs of Air Force One a couple of times.

5. Said "I'm Gerald Ford and You're not" on Saturday Night Live.

6. Was almost shot by a Charles Manson follower. One of two attempts actually by women on his life.

So......

I did not hi jack this thread, I spoke the truth and if it hurts, then put a band aid on it and get over it.

Neither of these guys were honest and did zippo for the United States that could be considered heroic or historical.....In a POSITIVE sense.

Statesmen? I don't think so.

And exactly how does all that prove their dishonesty?

If we accept your spin on everything it means Carter screwed up a lot and Ford was clumsy sometimes. But I didn't see anything in your list that makes him and Ford crooks, or proves they didn't care about the country and weren't trying to do their best...

Why don't you go put your rant somewhere else, instead of in what's basically an obituary thread?

By the way, there were two Manson girls who tried to take Ford out, not one: Squeaky Fromme, and Sara Jane Olson. Squeaky didn't know how a semi-automatic gun worked, so she had the magazine filled but no round in the chamber. Sara Jane had her shot deflected when a bystander grabbed or hit her arm. Exactly how does that reflect badly on Ford?

Well Spanky! If you can't see it then I guess you're not all that sharp.

Cause it was laid out for you....It's called THINKING...try it sometime!

There's been criticism here about Ford since the thread began. Using your logic we'd be civil to Adolf Hitler on his death too?

Scared when the truth comes out?

It's amazing how children try and run somebody off when you can't defeat their arguments.

Boo-hoo go post someplace else. My feelings are hurt!

Yea, real adult!!

Actually I was waiting for it. Proved my point in SPADES!

Adios!

That's Spanish btw!!!

Dang! Troy, you really know how to meet and influence folks, don't you? Haaa!! But, I'll grant you one point.....Carter was the worst of the two. Honest, well meaning...but, dumb. Ford, I thought, was a really good guy. I agree, he did what HE thought was best for America. Too bad bush doesn't feel the same......clearly, he just wants to sell America to the friggin 'rabs!

Bill Clinton will go down in the history books as a conservative President based on his voting record in Arkansas and as President and was probably the most comservative President we had in decades. However, there's always the issue's of what he could have done and should have done.

You don't get elected governor of Arkansas multiple times by being a flaming liberal.

and how about Texas? There seems to be little difference in policy between Democrats and Republicans.

It's been almost a Freaky Friday in politics the last few years. It's like the Democrats and Republicans switched bodies, leaving the Republicans to become deficit spenders, grow big government, become international interventionists trying to police the whole world, etc.

It's just my opinion but, I think bush has crippled the repubs for years to come. Though the public, in general, are nothing more than a pack of dunces, I'll wager they hold ALL repubs responsible, not just that scum bag bush. Why? We'll nobody forced them to support his bull. They could have said NO! They are all guilty by association...literally!
