Im interested now!

After doing a bunch of research I am interested in the Makarov for a CCW. C&R came up in a number of post and websites. How does C&R affect me getting and carrying a Makarov? Do I need to make sure I get a certain model, labeling,.... So far all I have been finding are Bulgarians and "Polish Makarov's". I read that the Polish weren't true Maks. What are your thoughts on the qualities of Maks out there. I want an 8 round mag. Thanks in advance.

Don't confuse a CCW permit to carry a Mak for a C&R license.

A concealled carry permit is just that....a state issued permit that allows one to carry in specific areas concealled.

A C&R (Curios and Relics) License is just that....a license issued by the BATFE that allows one to purchase and collect specifically listed firearms (generallt those 50 years old or older) that the BATFE has on the approved list.

Most, if not all, Makarovs are not yet C&R weapons.

Why that is I am not sure.

C&R licenses will also get you a lot of discounts on ammo, parts, equipment, etc. from most internet outlets.

A CCW will only get you armed.

I hope this helps.

Also, check out Makarov.com

Pecka, the PM (Pistolet Makarova) is an Exellent concealed carry pistol
It works best in my favorite mode of CCW (zippered coat pocket)
and the grip is large enough for me, so with my largish hands I can hold it and shoot it straight.
so for me it is small enough to conceal yet big enough to hold on to and shoot it accurately.
many people complain that the 9mm Mak (9x18mm) cartrige is not powerful enough for stopping bad guys.
I have to disagree
I have had the unfortunate experience of whitnessing a incident involving a .380 cal pistol.
a .380 will just plain feck up the Human body
I have SEEN that with my own eyes.
a 9mm MAK is a little more powerful than a .380

IMHO
The mak is a great CCW
I also understand that others have the right to disagree.
thats ok
Aint it great that we can have as many diferent kinds of pistols as we want
Buy as many pistols as you want to (they will make more)

As Dale said, do not confuse Curio and Relic (federal licence to directly purchase certain types of firearms) with concealed carry permits.

The only true Makarovs are those made in Russia, East Germany, Bulgaria and China.
Of these, only the milsurp Russian and East German Makarovs are eligible for purchase as Curio and Relic (meaning no NICs).
The reason is that someone took the time to put forward an application to have them declared Curios based on the fact that the country of origin no longer exists.

The Makaorv is a very good choice for concealed carry. It is small and packs a nice punch. Also, it is really easy to care for, it i rugged and it is accurate.

I don't think he was confusing CCW with C&R, rather that C&R may have been one more reason to like it.
