| I ran across that too. I was looking for a report on 9 guns that were stolen out of a garage one town over. I talked to the detective over at their department. Sadly no serial numbers, or calibers. Freaky, cause exactly 9 guns walked in our store for sale yesterday, 7 rifles, and 2 pistols. We were really suspicious, but what can I do, no way to identify the firearms stolen from the victim. This is a good example of pictures, serial number documentation, and store that seperate from the firearms. A gun safe is the best insurance. We do know of an insurance you can get for historical guns that is available to anyone. ![]() |

| It's amazing how many people don't have the serial numbers on file. My local shop has people coming in almost every week wanting the serial number of a gun they purchased years ago because it was stolen. I keep every serial number of everything with a number on file, I also have a test slug from every gun that I try to update every year or so. It's even more amazing that at least one state (Ohio) doesn't allow you to have a serial number checked before you buy a firearm. Every weapon I purchase, I call the local police department to check the number against the NCIC. The police don't want you to buy a stolen gun any more than we do. I remember one G&G member from Ohio who couldn't get a serial number checked until he purchased the weapon and brought it to the police station. I told him to PM me with the number and I would have it checked. We're happy to do it.
