| I think I agree more with Heilung on this one
The odds of getting a candidate you like selected inside the Dem or GOP party are a lot better than the odds of getting a 3d-party candidate elected.
An impassioned, hard-working majority can get a long-shot elected in the primary when fewer people vote, and then they can get the party to swing its machinery and money behind him rather than lose to the other side.
Look at fundamental and evangelical Christians in the Republican Party. They've had influence far beyond their actual numbers for years, because they care. They get out and work for what they believe in.
Unfortunately for them, they seem to have elected people who said what they wanted to hear and then went their merry ways when they were elected, but that just means they should've vetted their candidates better.
