Bush Seeks To Cut Farm Program Funds

Many farmers are much to rich to be subsidized by the tax payers. It's about time something be done to rectify this situation. Some small farmers should get help, but only those that really need the help and not those that are bleeding the tax payer.

But if this gets written and enacted the way it's described, it seems like a pretty good step.

I'm calling Willie Nelson. Troy so far, the way it's written and the way its enacted is not happening these days, to our demise.

I saw a 60 minutes special many moons ago which said the grain that was stored was being munched on by rats! That it would all be thrown out and that the subs for the farmer, the cost of storage and the ultimate ruin of the grain cost millions of tax payer dollars for nothing!

Farm subsididies have become America's largest corporate welfare program. Farm subsidies may be justified in helping struggling family farmers make ends meet, the bulk of subsidy payments however goes to the largest high-income farms.

The budget-busting 180 billion farm bill enacted before the 2002 elections not only encourages the crop overproduction that depresses crop prices and farm incomes, but also undermines trade and encourages other nations to refuse American exports.

The biggest farm subsidy in history. And I doubt it did much to help the farmers who actually needed help.

But it fits the pattern of this administration; look at the tax breaks they pumped into the petroleum companies who were racking up record profits. And in spite of the lip service, they've done very little to help the suppliers and developer of alternative fuels and energies.

Nor did they help at the other end, with efforts to cut back on consumption. Remember Cheney's snide remark? "Conservation may be a personal virtue, but it's nothing to base an energy policy on."

No Business needs to be subsidized. If you can't make a profit then the government has no business stepping in and paying out to help you make a buck. This goes for the family farm to the corporate giant. It's just another vote buying scheme cooked up by crooked politicians.
