Practice ammo for law enforcement

Lately I have heard instances where law enforcement agencies had funds cut for practice ammo.Equipment cost,s a lot and probably the politicians believe if they dress them right thats all that counts.Ammo is a big topic here and everyone knows you have to practice to be proficient.Taxes only go so far.I want to sugest that we check in our local communities and see if sufficient ammo is being supplyed for the law enforcement agencys to practice, and if not, would it help if you started a donation strictly for practice ammo.Their ammo is top $ because they need to practice with what they will use in the field.I live in a middle class neighborhood and to meet the budget and keep taxes reasonable, cuts have to be made.If the agencys really need ammo to practice I believe the public should make sure they are supplied as some day we may depend on their ability with firearms. samuel.

I think your cause is noble, but completely mis-guided. The last thing we need to do as civilian's is pony up more money. If the city/county or state "leaders" do not want to spend money on practice ammo for our LEO's, then they will have to suffer like the rest of us. What we need to do is force our elected "leaders" to make the proper amount of money available to LE so they can purchase what they need. I'm getting my CCH and am saving money so I can buy my own practice and use ammo, I'll be my personnal defense - me, myself and I.

I disagree, Mooseman. You'd be surprised that many cops make less than someone working at McDonald's. Budgets are getting cut and ammo has to be lead-free for practice. The days of duty ammo being used at most all ranges is by way of the dinosaur. We have to use the non-toxic stuff. It's not bad, but I do notice a slight change in shot placement from my Glock. It's expensive compared to regular ammo, and when you have 30+ officers qualifying with a minimum of 500 rounds a piece, the bill gets stiff.
And, if anyone here thinks that the chiefs know what their officers want and need, ask 1*- he'll tell you he has one of the biggest jerks for a chief in the country. That's the way it is today, and I honestly believe most chiefs have a lobotomy as part of the induction ceremony.
Take a look at most PD's and you'll see officers moonlighting 1 , 2 or even 3 other jobs to make ends meet. I do security when I'm not on duty and in the worst part of Dayton, too. Because of regulations, I have to carry my own ammo and qualify in the private security sector to maintain a Firearms Bearer Card with the State of Ohio even though I'm a cop! The only plus to the security side is that when I get into an physical altercation with someone, I can have them charged with assault on a police officer (felony in Ohio and carries 1 year mandatory prison time- no plea bargain).
