Ditto on the 67 Chevell SS. Picked this girl up for $350 in 1973. She was a 325 hp rebuilt by Murry Motors St. Louis, with Hooker headers, Thrush Side Pipes, (awesome low rumble) Tranchula alum manifold, 780 Holley single pumper, Mallory Dual Point (POS) ignition system and Turbo 400 Tranny.
She sat up for three years. Had a heck of time getting the kinks worked out.
Mooseman, does pic look familiar?

(this engine is actually a 427 L88 block with CI heads. the ol 396 had a knack for snapping the oil pump rod and floating the valves)

Ox, my parents, when first married (early 40's) had old cheap cars. 30's two door Ford with Rumble Seat! Ahh! If only my dad had invested in cheap cars instead of worthless stuff............

My car back in high school was a 87 Chevy S-10. Four banger with stick shift. Had some real good times and some real bad times in that truck. I sold it to my uncle and he still has it.

1993 Chevy Caprice - Former Highway Patrol Car.

I still have it. It doesn't let me down if I need to go somewhere.

You mean ALMOST big enough for a 350, Joe

I had a '72 Nova with a 350 in it, and I swear they used a shoe horn and giant rubber mallet to wedge it in.

But my first car in high school was a 1959 Vokswagen, missing first and reverse gear. Nowadays I'd check the linkage, but back then I just shrugged, and put a foot out and pushed when I wanted to back up.

I rolled it down a boat ramp into the Colorado River one day, to see if VW's really floated. Fortunately for me, they did.

Well, next to the two of us trying to crawl out at the same time, because we were afraid we'd tip it, let water in the windows and sink...

We finally managed to drag it in at another boat ramp about a mile downriver, with a small but enthusiastic crowd of drunks helping. By then we had bounced off several docks. And it had several inches of water in it, because the battery under the back seat had rotted a small hole in the floor pan.

If you're ever in a VW and someone asks, "do these things really float?", I don't recommend answering, "I dunno; let's find out."

Billy, that was the first car I drove. It was blue and my parents traded it to a friend for a '77 olds wagon. First truck I drove was a '64 chevy stepside. Its been a long road since then.

Just like Billy, my first car was a 74' Pinto Wagon.. Red, lots of rust, but ran good..

I was interested in hunting, fishing and trapping, so it was my truck with a permanant camper shell.. Oh, and it had Panasonic Thruster house speakers in the back so I could get to the outdoor parties, pull the speakers out, and we had tunes..

Funny, I don't ever remember surfing..

Small town Wisconsin.. Drinking age was 18, but most started at 13-14.. Got it out of our systems early..

Mine was a 1987 Nissan Sentra, and it wasn't entirely mine, but I put it through its paces before getting my '90 Bronco II in college.

BRG3...I also had a 1987 Nissan Sentra SE which eventually I gave to my daughter in college. That five speed car had plenty of scat and cut though air easily allowing it to run well over speed limits. (That means I had it up to 95 mph at one time or another. Never did top out, though.)

I drove a 1968 AMC Javelin and weather permitting a 1970 Triumph Daytona 500. I still see the Triumph at bike meets...
