Small town Wisconsin.. Drinking age was 18, but most started at 13-14.. Got it out of our systems early..
the sad part is that car was only 4 years old! time flies!

At the age of 16 in 1974 my Dad and I went halves ($600 each) on a VW Bug (light blue with a sun roof), I don't remember the model year anymore but I think it was '68 or '69. It ran great, but I had learned to drive on automatic so had to learn all over again on a stick. I have to admit that stick scared me for a while. After a couple of months was pretty competent with the car. Then my Dad switched jobs and got a small underground parking space. He "talked" me into trading him for his '73 Buick LaSabre (here after refered to as the aircraft carrier). I drove that car through the rest of High School, College and the Army. Didn't get rid of it until 1984. After I got out of the service by Dad gave the VW to my new wife so she would have a car. We finally sold it in about 1987 for more that my Dad and I had paid for it.

'55 Chevy. I'd give almost anything to have it back.
I got it for free and proceeded to make it faster. I did a good job because I got pulled over many times in that car.
Just a 283 but with solid lifters, 2.02 intake valves, four barrel, headers, 4.11 posi rear end, and of course the best of all. An 8 track stereo. That baby had TWO speakers in it!

70 Nova SS 396 and I still have it!

The big block is out at the moment while I rebuild it, but there is a little 383 in there to get me around.

Gosh, forgot about the 64 Rambler Classic 4-door my dad said I could use. I told him, "I'd rather walk!" Got rides from Janet and Candy. Yeah Baby!
Junior year, had a Rambler Marlin Fast-Back ,red with black roof and trunk . It acutally had an AM/FM mono radio and reclining bucket seats. Very cool!
That puppy had positrack rearend. Put snow chains on street tires and there was no place that thing wouldn't go. (within reason)

I had a 1986 Yugo. Yea! HEH. Actually it was a good car...I wish I still had it.

LOL, Everyone used to joke about it: "Isn't that one of those cars you get free when you buy a suburban?" HEHE

I'll put up some pics when I get home. It is not done by a long shot. Still needs paint and body, but everything else is done. I finally got another car so I can sit the nova aside and take the sub frame off and go completely through it. I was a mechanic for six years and sold muscle car parts for about the same, so I do know a thing or two about them. GM only though! No Mopar or Ford.

Here is what I think of Mopar.

Mine was what you would call a super sleeper. It was a bright white '67 Olds 442 that was BADD!! Get this! no headers, no slicks, no gear (3:42 posi) and ran consistent 13.02 in the quarter mile. Impossible? Not for this brute. 400 cubic inches, 400 ft.lb. of torque, 4 speed w/Hurst shifter and hardly ever lost a race, and that includes 428 Mustangs and a 289 Hi-Po stang. Same class (E/Stock) as Z-28s, Plymouth GTXs, Dodge RTs, AMXs, other 442s on the drag strip. Street races included those plus a '70 Road Runner 440 6-pack, 340 Darts and Demons, 396 Cameros, 428 Torinos, a 429 "Super CJ" Torino or some big body Furd, 289 & 302 stangs, GTXs, RTs, Z-28s, 383 Road Runners (no contest) and a Dart 383 GTS, and a lot of forgetables.
She had a bad-!!! reputation and after the first year I couldn't get anybody local to race me! Didn't win every race due to missed second or third gear be won more than I should. Made people mad. Made some cry. One guy (440 6 pack RR) wanted to fight but his buddies told him how it was, a fair and square race and he just got smoked!
Almost more fun than sex! What a grand time. If you don't believe this, that's OK. I was there and I swear it's all true. I still have witnesses and good memories.

My very first new car after I graduated high school in 1970 was a 1970 Chevy Nova SS with a 396/375 HP and a 4-speed. Forest Green with cloth bench seats, AM Radio, fake rubber "carpeting", and $3,250.00 on the sticker. I wish I still had it today. Bill T.
