Can't beat the KA-BAR. Very affordable and as reliable as any other knife out there.

Yeah. It's not very good. The blade is too thin for it's length to be a good all-around knife. The only thing it would be good for is stabbing in a fight, and even then it's a bit too long For that. In a fight, you want something effective and maneuverable. CRKT makes a good close combat knife called the Bear Claw. For a fighter, go with the Bear Claw or a T-blade knife. The Hissatsu just reminds me of a built up filet knife.
CRKT has a few others though that aren't too bad. Take a look at the Corkum First Strike series, the M21 series, and the M16 series. Those aren't too bad. I've carried an M16-13Z for about a year now, and I love it.

Personally though, I'd go with a SOG knife for a SHTF situation. They make some good, quality knives. I own a SOG SEAL Pup, and it's held up to everything I've put it through. And take my word for it, that's a lot.

But no, the CRKT Hissatsu definitely isn't the best choice.

Kukuri

I bought two of them from Sarco and modified them according to m4040.com instructions. I copied the best I could. The guy that did them on the web page did a better job, but the 2nd one I did turned out pretty good. I didn’t cord wrap either handle; it seemed to make the handle to thick for my stubby, meat hook of a hand. My son and I are working on leather scabbards for them. I bought some of the oxpho blue, cold bluing, from Brownells, like the guy suggested. It is some awesome stuff. I am posting the picture from his website. This is not my knife, but it’s close. I hope this pic works.

Plus, I always carry a small Case knife in my pocket. In fact I buy a new one about every six months and ‘retire’ the old one to keep for my grandkids some day. I have about ten small 1,2 and 3 bladed Case knives. Sadly, I would have more, but I lose them, too!

I'd have to go with the next gen. KA-BAR. As everyone before me has said, they're probably the most reliable, aside from the SEAL knife.

Eh. They're too wooden. You gotta figure that it could rot from exposure. That's why I chose the next gen synthetic one.
