The reason for the exclusion of the M1 carbine is simple- it was not meant as an assault/main rifle. It was intended strictly as a defensive weapon to replace the 1911.

Styer AUG? Nothing more than a toy rifle. Down here they are known as Tupperware Rifles due to being made of plastic. Nothing but a POS. Give me the old SLR that the australian army used so sucessfully in Vietnam
well the M1 Carbine wasnt exactly used to replace the 1911 if I remember correctly all it was was shortened M1 Garand developed for close quarters fighting that was goin on in europe I could be very wrong so dont quote me but I dont think it was built to replace the 1911

Let's split the difference, tbone, and say it was developed as a weapon smaller than the Garand so as to be less cumbersome for artillery, cooks, medics, and mechanized personnel but give them something with more range and firepower than the pistol.....
