its a big scale and it doesnt take much to go from not happen to happen. i tend to think that if it happens, it will happen from within. the economy being the big reason for that, but the other reason is this. even though terrorists and such are dangerous, they arent overly intelligent. I point out by way of example:a couple months after the nine eleven incident, a government official from back east but west of the rio grande got an anthrax letter. a few days after that osama bin laden was quoted as saying "terror in america has been spread from coast to coast" now I dont know about you, but I didnt think our coast ended at the rio grande. no if we have a shtf moment, it'll be from the inside. the only exception being if we get so weak and fragile inside that someone can hit us from the outside. Like the roman empire. invincible till its leaders couldnt lead it all and devided it, and then when the goths came in it was ripe for the plucking.

Seems like theres a new batch of doomsday scenarios cooked up every year. Adds a little variety to our lives, I reckon.

I think it will come in my lifetime and I am going to be as prepared as I economically can be and enjoy life while I can.

SHTF has happened across the globe many times in the past. Just because we have some sort of order at this point...what makes you think we in the US are immune to such an event? The term "survival of the fittest" was not created by yuppie soccer moms trying to make it to work on Monday morning.

I think if it does happen it will be something like today but about 50 times worse meaning(robberies, murders, muggers, the whole 9 yards.

I have a theory that the fall of our current government will come from within. I do not really believe any other country will cause the U.S. to fall, but I will fall from within. History does have a way of repeating itself and we've been at war with outselved twice, it's how this country came to be. First we declared our own independance from Britain during the Revolutionary War, then the North and the South went at it during the Civil War. If you believe we have created a perfect government that will keep a peace forever I think you are mistaken. It may not happen in our lifetime, but I do believe there will be a second Civil War in this country someday. Just my theory.

S could HTF at ANY moment. It has happened before, it will happen again. How you define "SHTF" will ultimately determine the likelihood that it'll happen.

If we don't vote out the gungrabing politicians and the politicians giving away our money overseas I believe it will happen in my lifetime and I am already nearly 70. We must elect those that will use the money saved from foreign aid to take care of our own and pay off the National debt which will stabilize and strengthen our economy.
