Gentlemen,
...Garand's which one do you favor the most. What draws you to that rifle. Is it a safe queen or your best shooter. Or is it something about it that you can't put your finger on.
Thanks again
Clancy
I've got only one so I can't compare!
BUT.... it is the first gun I bought, I alway thought a Garand would be a gun I would buy and own
and I think it's something I can't put my finger on because I've got the same with the 1911 model.
Maybe it's also the history behind it!
I don't know. But you can find a dozen reasons with dozen people!

Of the two I have, I'd have to say my M1D. I have shot it, but I don't shoot it often, so it's not really a safe queen. It shoots really tight, and the M84 scope is nice. Only a 2.2 power magnification, but it has really clean optics. I guess I'd have to say the history behind it as well. The other Garand I have is a CMP service grade. It probably has a lot more history behind it.
I think the major thing thing that draws me to the garand is its history. I have yet to shoot it so it is a safe queen for now but mine in particular was manufacured in may 1942 all original parts so it is truly a warhorse but yeah....

I have four of them at the moment, but only two are working. For me the best is the one that shoots the straightest and doesn't give me any trouble on the range. I find the Garand fits me like I was made for them. It sits in the shoulder perfectly. As an ex army armourer I find the way the rifle is designed to be as interesting as the way it performs for me at the range. As a cobber of mine once said "If it looks good , it generally works good". Well the Garand looks better than good!!!
I just got my first m1 (greek fg return) which I have not shot yet. I am putting a new stock on it tonight, and from stripping it down, I am already in love with the design and feel of this sucker....!!

Most of mine are shooters, but I have a couple that I put away.
Here is what I have to choose from - minus the 2 I don't shoot - all in this photo are Springfield except 1 H & R and a new Beretta receiver I'm building as a 7.62 Nato shooter using all new Beretta parts as I find them.

Rugar22, congrats, you might have Garanditis now.
Nostalgia and history. My father, uncle and older cousins where in WWII.
The Combat TV series glamorized the war. We Win!. We kick Arsh! Not like todays media portrayal of Iraq; we're on the road to defeat.
As a kid, all this combined with dad teaching me to shoot his 1890 .22 short Winchester pump-action repeater.
Allways thought the Garands where cool looking.
When my father pasted away in the mid 90s I bought my first Garand from monies left/hidden from the house.
Now I own 5 Springfields. All mix-masters with two Danish Returns. One has serial # 50,7xx that was rearsenaled in '64 but has Italian bolt. hmm?
Shooting the Bushmaster DCM-CMP AR-15 has Garandits suppressed for now.
