Boot Hill ammo....

Just reading an article in Guns and Ammo by Rick Hacker about cartridges that are doomed to obsolescence. They are...
.22 Hornet
.22 long
.218 Bee
.32 Winchester Special
.348 Winchester
.38-40
.32-20
.25-20
8mm Remington Mag.
.284 Winchester
.45 G.A.P.
.41 Magnum

It'll be interesting to see if any of them actually die off. IMO, the only ones that I'd put money on are:
.22 long, .218 Bee, .284 Win., and MAYBE the 8mm Rem. Mag.
On second thought, I wouldn't actually put money on any of them completely disappearing as they all have their followers.

I don't buy that the .41 mag is on it's death bed. There are more guns chambered for it now than any other time in it's existance.

How does the .22 long differ from the .22 Long Rifle?

I,ll bet the .22hornet will be around for 100yrs yet. It,s quiet, covers good range and is easy to reload for.I use 35gr Hornady vmax at 3100fps.Kills coyotes out to 200yds and doesnt exit. samuel.

I was kind of surprised to see the .22 hornet on the list also. I've shot it and found it to be very accurate at 150+ yards.

I also think the .22 Hornet is here to stay. I have b buddy that deer hunts with one, and always gets his deer.

Doesn't seem like "enough gun" for deer hunting, but he is quiet sucessful with it.

I saw the .45 GAP heading for obsolescence as soon as it was released. It's an answer looking for a question. Springfield no longer makes the XD in .45 GAP and Kimber, SIG, Para, Beretta, and Taurus never chambered any of their handguns for it.
