Question 10-22 stovepipes

once again im in need of advice if you dont mind.i have a adams and bennett bull bbl. 10-22 that stove pipes A LOT! i have taken this gun apart and got it very clean. i read not to use oil so i have used a dry lubricant,ELMERS SLIDE ALL. i have tightend up the mag springs as well that helped some. i realize that with a match bbl. it should be a little picky but i have tried 6 kinds of ammo and at least 1 jam per 10rnds.usually 3 or 4. this thing would be so fun if it worked! any ideas?

I have the Adams and Bennet barrel on my 10/22. To get it working I changed the extractor (used Power Custom) and installed a recduced power hammer spring! If that doesn't work you may need to have the extractor cut in the barrel worked on by a gunsmith. My friend had to have that cut deepend on a buler creek barrel to get it to work.

I use a light coating of CLP on internals. I don't have any problems with it. I have never used the dry lube on my 10/22.

Change out the triger plunger spring as well. Won't do anything to solve your problem, but it will help your trigger pull 100%.

I replaced the extractor on mine. If you want some inexpensive upgrade packages look atCheapGunParts.Com or look for the weaponkraft website. I'll post a link to that one later. I can't seem to find it with the blocked websites here at work. G&G is about the only 'weapon' website I can go to here at work....

9 out of 10 times with a new match barrel, an aftermarket extractor will fix the problem. Just make sure after installing it, you loosen your v-block bolts and then GENTLY twist your barrel left and then right until you can feel where dead center is...then tighten the bolts up..that insures your extractor is sitting directly in the center of the extractor slot on the barrel and is not rubbing on the sides.
If you need some help with assembly or tear down, go to <% TITLE %> where I have over 100 photos of various things. there are two sites (the new one is being rebuilt)..trigger stuff on the old site is a little better.

Thumbs up 10-22 stovpipes update

well i polished the begeezus out of the bolt guide rod stripped all that dry lube out and gave it a sprizter of clp. and no more stovepipes! i figure i clean it after every session anyway so it never has a chance to gunk up so i can lube it with anything.

I'm having the same problem with both my 10/22's. They are stock, no internal mods. I'm using Ruger standard and Ram Line 10 rnd. magazines. Right now I'm using Federal copper top, has a small hole on the top of the bullet, but I wouldn't call them hollow points. I've cleaned cleaned well, removing the extractor and spring and guide thingy from the bolt assembly and blowing it out with compressed air. Since both of them are stove pipeing, I'm thinking it's the ammo. Has anyone else had problems with the Federal stuff? Or should I be looking at something else? Thanks.

Sorry I can't help with your problem Billy, but as you can see I'm not that informed when it comes to firearm problem solving.

Haha....I've had both of these rifles for years and have run thousands of rounds through them. Something else besides break in is the problem, or maybe they've become too broke in?
