10-22 groups
i have a new to me 10-22 and i have lost track of how many kinds of ammo i have tried. my question is this, a number of times i have gotten 3 4 or 5 shot groups that are great .one ragged hole and then every other round in the mag will go everywhere, sometimes the good groups are the middle 5 in the 10 rnds. sometimes at the first and sometimes the last rnds. this is in a locked in a vise rifle. there is no operator error .expensive match ammo all the way to bulk federal which by the way is just about as good as the $25 for 50rnds. ammo in my 2 guns.. whats with the flyers? signed dumbfounded
Billy, Are you shooting indoors, or outdoors ? Temperature, humidity, and wind all have an effect on accuracy. Ammo cooling off after being transported in a warm vehicle will shoot differently, as will a barrel heating and cooling during shooting. Is this with that heavy barrelled 10/22 you showed us ?

Yessir...Everything is relevant !!! Try this...Buy a box of Aguila Colibri NO gunpowder .22's and set up a cardboard box with stacked vertical layers of newspaper or magazines inside your house with a target on it at about 20-25 feet away, and bench test your rifle indoors with the ammo warm and the barrel won't heat up with this round and see how well it performs. It is safe as a pellet rifle is with this ammo.See how accurate it is with these, you will have to cycle the bolt manually of course.
Good luck,
Rich

The Ruger 10/22 is not a target rifle but can be made to shoot decently. For info on rimfires there is no better place, in my opinion, than; RimfireCentral.com
Shoot groups of 5 in several targets. Leave one target, the same target under each group of 5 that you shoot. You can shoot as many groups of 5 you want, the more the better. Att he end of the session, look at the bottom target for your realistic group. You will be amazed at how the "flyers" actually form a bigger picture of your groupings.
Billy , don't feel bad...He is saying to put targets over a Backing target. I dont understand what it would accomplish other than having a shot up backing target with holes all over the thing...Not how us competition shooters do it !

Dumb question...but are you shooting 50 or 100 yard? the drop at 100 is drastically effected even by a tiny breeze....10/22's are made pretty much for 50 yard or closer targets.
