Boundary Waters

What would you bring for a 4 day BWCA trip?
We are going in on entry point #27 in early June. Hoping to catch lots of fish, get drunk, and see a moose.

It depends what you want to do. There is so much to do up there, it all depends on what you want out of the trip. Explain.

I'm assuming BW stands for boundary waters, which I assume would be the waters between the US and Canada west of the Great Lakes.

I would love to take such a trip some time. I'd leave the alchohol behind but take plenty of high energy provisions and gear suitable to the level of comfort you're seeking. Basically I'd want to go as far as possible in the time you have, and try not to let anything ruin the enjoyment.

Oh Dallas! that is Great! "Back Water Canoe Assault"

You and your buddies need to do some type of working out. Your portage'ing your gear from lake to lake. Bench press pushups, military press. Leg work. You dont want to sit around complaining that youre hurting.
Mose important, water purification systems
seriously now.
#1. 3 more days
#2. Two large cheapo non-stick aluminum frypans and oil
#3. Big S/S pot for boiling water and cleanup
#4. Bio degradable soap
#5. Pack a large thin piece of plywood to clean fish on
#6 De hi foods, you might not catch any fish if your not going in that far. Those areas are pretty much over used. (opine) Pancake mix and precooked bacon. No dehi eggs and bacon unless ya'll enjoy sitting on the backwood thrones.
Beef Jerky. Trail mix. Granola bars. Rice-a-roni Peanut butter
#7 Head mesh insect nets. Heavey Deet bug repelant. The biting black fuing flys are out in force. That mean long sleeve shirts and long pants.
#8 You know what a Duluth Bag is? If thats the right word? You pack all your gear and clothes in there.
#9 Blue jeans are very heavy and dont dry well. Cotton poly or that other thin stuff. You dont need to carry a full wardrobe. One change of clothes. Everybody will stink anyway so get use to it.
#10 Wool socks! polypro long underware
#11 GOOD RAINGEAR. No ponchos. Spend a little money on the new seems like paper raingear but it is fantastic
#12 lightweight camp chairs. There are no picnic tables in the back country
#13 SAW no not swad automatic weapon! Folding Saw. two or three for crew
#14

Fishing Gear.
Im not familiar with catching walleyes. Trolling?
Smallies:
a. Black twrister tails
b. Brown medium size weedless crawfish imitations ( Awsome!) Work em slow
c. for Northerns: spinners, big spinners. Work coves slow, it you see a downen tree, one Nothern is there. A couple of lilly pads, there is one there.
gotta go
pm me if you want. I've been there twice

I'd lean towards packing more stuff myself, since you don't have to carry it on your back. I'd go heavy on the gear for a canoe trip vs a hiking trip, where I'd emphasize speed.

Your much better off going through one of the outfitters up there and having them outfit your trip. I have done it both ways and since we packed our own stuff, we have always went with an outfitter after that. Mainly because we ALWAYS forgot something and it's less expensive in the long run.

Be ready for some gruesomely aweful portegse', be ready to read a map with a compass if you don't have GPS, and be ready to be eaten by a ga-jillion skeeter's. But no matter what - have a good time!

The Yogi black bears are not the same as Alaska's. They are "mostlikely" frieghtened off with banging pans and noise. I always (almost) carry a 45 into the woods. Being prepared. Personally, up there, while legal, its just more wieght
Them boys are going to be making enough noise to wake the dead.

remember to pack light! portage after portage can suck, with heavy packs, and canoes, unless you're in amazing shape.
